Hardware Tools for Electronic and Robotic Hobbyists

This site is oriented to providing pointers to software that can help with the design and development of electronic gadgets. The software referenced here is all either freeware, shareware, or demo software so it can be tried with out investing money. Where possible I've included a link to the site where you can get the latest version rather than a direct download of a possibly stale version.

For an example of a project where I'm using some of these tools, click here.

Electronic circuit design and simulation tools

MicroSim use to provide a demo version of their software; however, they were bought out and I'm not sure if the new company provides this. The link to the old company site is no longer valid. If you have more information please email me at RJKuhn_2000@yahoo.com.

SimPCB - A Simple Printed Circuit Board auto router

SimPCB is an auto router that might be helpful to the hobbyist who wishes to design and etch their own printed circuit boards (PCB). A printed circuit can replace all hand wired circuitry with copper traces etched on the board. SimPCB only allows a resolution of 0.1 inch which should allow the use of most discrete components and DIP chips. Also, a resolution of 0.1 inch is about the finest resolution that can be successfully etched by hand. The current implementation allows you to control the size of the circuit board, up to 12.8" x 4.0". The current implementation also expects the board to be a double sided PCB.

If you use any of these tools on a regular basis you are encouraged to register them. With a full registration you will receive the next version of the software when it becomes available.
