Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is treatment by using fragrance. Certain aromas are known
to cause both psychological and physical responses and can actually change
your mood or help treat an illness. Use aroma to help you with your stress:
- to wake you up: lemon and peppermint smells
- keep lemon drops or peppermints with you to help pick you up
- run water for your bath in the tub - warm, not hot.
Add botanicals (herbs like lavender are relaxing, mint awakening, sandalwood smells
can be soothing). Lie back, close your eyes, inhale through your nose, exhale
through your mouth until you're totally relaxed.
- Herbal tea: put 1 tsp of a dried herb (like mint or oatstraw) in a cup of hot water.
Let steep, then sweeten if you need to and enjoy slow sips.
- Make an atomizer of spring water and only 1 drop (NOT MORE) of an essential oil like
lavender. Spray when needed into the air or on your skin. You can also spray onto a
cloth and use it to wipe down things. Great for babies too.
- Fill a cloth bag with lavender or other realxing gentle herb and tie up the bag.
Place this bag in a tub of hot water in the bath. Helps relax you and can also
work well for babies and children.
- When wiping down a room, use essential oil of lemon or eucalyptus oil for
a wonderful smell.
- Use potpourri or scented candles around a room to add fragrance and
help calm you while you work.
- Put oil of lavender or sandalwood or other relaxing herb on your pulse
points (behind ears, just inside wrists) to let the aroma spread and to help
calm your pulse.
