Day 8 - Tuesday 20th December

My thoughts upon waking up were that if the weather had cleared I would go back and have another go at Federation as we were only half an hour maybe from the ascent. Roan wasn't in it as he felt his shoes were untrustworthy. As it turned out the weather was very misty and the rain hadn't completely disappeared either. We made our way up and down for a while before a serious descent and clearing weather (damn it!). By the time we had crossed Cherry Ck and had views, Federation was in clear uncloudy views! Well I am always keen for another trip back as it is great stuff. The boggy button grass and creek side walking didn't dampen our spirits but it did take us most of the day to reach South Cracroft camp site and since the weather was fine we reasoned we would be safe from flooding here. There was evidence of recent flooding and all the bauer had been pushed over in the area. This was a very nice campsite but insect repellant was vital as the mosquito's here were ferocious! From here we started to make plans for life after the Arthurs - a sad sign that our sojourn was coming to an end.
