Day 1 - Tuesday 13th December

Roan and I arrive at Scott's Peak at about 12 pm. We left Hobart at 8 AM but the bus spent about 45 minutes at Mt Field Visitor's Centre which gave Roan and I opportunity to visit Russell Falls - What a sight. We have morning tea at the visitor's centre - a cappacino and some carrot cake. Damn great. Our packs are so heavy - mine is 33 kg with water, this is due to rope and some 14 days of food as I intended to do Mt Anne and still would have if we had a shorter trip and retreated out the same way. The journey seems daunting and Roan in the initial stages wasn't very fit but this situation rapidly changed. He was determined to get fit for it very quick. I actually relied on Roan to motivate me to complete the traverse. Initially I was hesitant to complete the walk but became more confident after Promitory Lake was reached.

We arrived at Junction Ck at 3:30 and then at the base of Morraine A by 4:30 pm. Going up with these heavy packs was hard work but eventually we reach the crest of the range. The ascent continued and because the weather was clear and Roan needed a break we dumped packs and I summitted Mt Hesperus. I was very keen to do this as Frank was the only one able to do this on my last South West adventure. Yes the weather was good at that point in spite of intermitant showers since we began walking. We kept having to put jackets on and then take them off again as the weather kept changing. Luckily it was clear on top and remained so until we began descending to lake Cygnus.
