Day 37 - Dog Pool to Mt Chance
There appear to be a lot more people heading South than North as I have aonly passed two people heading north and every two or three days there appears to be a person or group heading south.
Whilst walking along Marron Road and Pingerup roads was alright. the day really became fascinating after leaving Pingerup road and heading into the Pingerup Plains. These low lying areas drain slowly west towards Broke Inlet so are often swampy and filled with fascinating displays of flowers. What makes the landscape even more interesting is the islands of granite which provide a richer soil on their peripheries to support Jarrah and Karri forests.
I had now had 2 consecutive sunny days and this made the walking most scenic as the air was rarefied and from high points the views were clear and outstanding. At Mt Chance, Broke Inlet was seen for the first time. Mt Chance itself is a granite dome about 140m high and the summit is a steep 5 minute climb from the campsite.
Having mobile reception I was able to communicate with home. Because of the mobile reception, the spectacular views and the proximity to the hut I must of gone up to the summit about eight times. A most wonderful sunset and awesome views of the Pingerup Plains were a great touch to this campsite.
