Day 36 - Maringup to Dog Pool
A fantastic dawn greeted me over the lake. Wading sections were common during the day as the track made it's way to Dog Pool and the Shannon river. I happened to see two more tiger snakes during the day. The day was one of the longest stretches between huts being 25.6 km but I was at Dog Pool by 2:30 pm with a leisurely pace, many breaks including lunch thrown in.
After
crossing the Deeside Coast Road, the track took a real turn for the worse being
swampy and not even being discernable so that I was walking blindly in the swamp
at points until Dog Road was reached.
When I reached Dog Pool I washed all my clothes in the river and tried to have a swim but the water was too cold. The dog pool is under a wide granite waterfall so that the babbling brook effect would once again be the background noise for the night. Suspecting mosquitos could be a problem I once again set my tent up inside the hut for protection.
There is an informal free library amongst the huts. Today I finished up my fifth and worst book of the trip. The book was puke but I kept reading anyway to see what would happen. A warning to people not to read any Mercedes Lackey books as they are ghastly.
