Mikey and Ed
Friday 9-8-00
Yep.. I think Mikey likes his new brother-in-law. They've been good buddies for well over a year now. The wedding had to be delayed twice and "Mister" Ed took a lot of time off work to be at the hospital with Mikey. He spent many nights sleeping on the floor in the pediatric ICU waiting room, holding vigil while Mikey laid unresponsive and supported by machines down the hall. So, "Mister" Ed has been a good friend and now a welcome addition to the family. With his background in law enforcement and security, Ed is holstering a big gun when he returns from work, and Mikey thinks he's a regular "Rambo"! Mikey will enjoy himself today.. After school, Ed's parents are hosting a barbecue for their church, so we're all gonna go and pig-out!

Sunday 9-10
Saturday was a Fun Day for Mikey. Mikey and Patrick went to the Family Fun Park first and rode on all the rides, played some games, and had pizza for lunch. Later in the day, they went to "Grand Slam", another fun place for kids. They rode horses, visited the petting zoo, and tried their luck at the "dunking booth"... BOTH were successful! Mikey was pretty tuckered by the end of the day. He's sleeping like a little old log right now... getting rested up for church today. Mikey is well...
Thank You, Lord.

Friday 9-15
Hopefully yesterday was the last 100 degree day for awhile. It's been 47 days without rain now, but it did cool down some today... cool enough for Mikey to play some ping pong out in our garage with sissy and Mister Ed. Mikey LOVES ping pong! He said he needed something fun to do, since tomorrow is his "day off". He was chosen to read the "colors book" to the whole school this week. Apparently it was on closed circuit TV, because all the kids who saw Mikey after school were saying, "Hey.. You're the kid we saw reading the color book!". Tonight he came home with a little kaleidoscope he got for good behavior, not talking or getting his name put on the board. Not talking.. MIKEY?? Hehehe... Mikey is well.. Thank You, Lord.

Tuesday 9-26
Today's pictures show Mikey at the Arkansas & Oklahoma State Fair that has just started. Mikey actually got to go to the fair twice today, because his kindergarten class went out there earlier this morning! The weather cooled off quite nice and we all had a great time at the fair. Mikey went on all the rides with Patrick, Ed, mom and Sissy. He even got to play some of the games on the midway and he won some neat prizes. What a blessing it is, to have Mikey with us, and see him enjoy himself SO MUCH! Mikey is well.. Thank You, Lord!

Mikey Prays
Sunday 10-1
Mikey says, "Hi everybody, this is Mikey! I like to put this little sign on my door when I wanna pray by myself". Mikey has again been having problems keeping his food (and his medicines) down. After praying with him, he said he was going to pray too, but then he ran down the hall.. He got his little "Shhhh.. Child Praying" sign out to hang on the door knob, so he could pray "in private". What a Mikey! I believe that little hanger is something he made in one of his Sunday School classes.
Mikey DOES need our prayers. He has eaten very little since Thursday. I've been in contact with the cardiologist twice today, and he said if he didn't improve within the next 24 hours, he'll need to go to Tulsa. He HAS been able to keep down a little peanut butter and jelly, mashed potatoes and yogurt today, so hopefully he IS getting better. It can be very dangerous when his heart medicines don't get absorbed.. we found that out in April when he went into congestive heart failure, after a bout of nausea. But we've been praying, and he didn't want to miss Sunday School, so we went just in time for his class and came right back afterwards.
Thanks in advance for your prayers, and.. Thank You, Father, for all you've done and continue to do for Mikey.

10-02 Just in from Mikey's Dad!
Mikey got a little food down yesterday, but hasn't been able to eat
today again. We're real concerned. This problem with no appetite and
frequent nausea, seems to be the only thing threatening Mikey's
continued recovery. He got his medicines down today and the oximeter
readings show that his oxygen saturation and his heart rate are still
good. We just hope we can get some nourishing food in him to stay, so he
doesn't have to re-enter the hospital for IVs or enteral feeding. Mikey
fought long and hard through many set-backs.. on and off the ventilator.
It would be devastating for him physically and emotionally to wind up
back on the tubes and machines... It'd be very easy for him to give up
if that happened again.
He was tired, but he wanted to try on his Halloween costume, so we let
him do that just a few minutes ago. He's going to be a clown this year.
We're not into celebrating Halloween or trick-or-treating, but we let
Mikey put on a funny costume and pass out candy when the neighbor kids
come around.
Mikey says, "Hi, Peggy. This is Mikey. I ate a little bit yesterday, but
I didn't eat today, but thanks for prayin' for me. Bye-bye!"
