game 1...

  • # of players: The Ginyu Force - 6 (0 subs), I Team - 7 (1 sub)...
  • skill level: The Ginyu Force - none of us have played street hockey in leagues before... a couple have played ice hockey (Jeff, Brad), but other than that, street hockey play has been minimal... only 3 of us were in shape to play, but it didn't matter much without any substitutions... I Team - a few of their players had team jerseys, leading me to believe they've at least played in leagues before... I was told they were an individual team (individual signups placed on a team), but they seemed to know each other... they seemed to be in better shape, probably having played some games recently...
  • analysis: with subs, I believe we would have been a match for them... although it seemed that they'd played together before, they didn't click... their goaltender was mediocre at best... with more shots on goal, we would have scored sooner or later... unfortunately, though they put up a gallant effort, Jared and Joe were getting their 2nd winds at different times, so we didn't have much of a chance in their zone at all... Jeff and Brad played good solid defense, keeping their score to a minimum... and Rachael, being it her 1st time ever playing street hockey, did a fine job considering...
  • goaltender situation: I faced 29 shots in 30 minutes, mostly long shots, but a lot in close... I felt "on", which is definitely good... hope I can keep it up for the rest of the games...

    game 2...

  • # of players: The Ginyu Force - 6 (0 subs, 1 extra player for 2nd period), Atomic Warriors - 9 (3 subs)...
  • skill level: The Ginyu Force - we were in better shape this game and had much, much more offense than last game... Atomic Warriors - this is a team that's been together for years - I recognized a few, including Matt Doerschener's uncle, from when we played pick-up at the North Hills dek a couple years back... they played together well and were definitely in good shape...
  • analysis: they were a much better team and they had subs, which made it doubly hard for us to make much of an impact... they were all over us from the start... but we did get some chances and even a goal from Jeff... their goaltender, again, was mediocre at best... everybody on The Ginyu Force played with everything we had - Jared and Kurt playing the boards well, getting it deep into their zone, Joe H. and Brad covering the players in front of our net, and Jeff breaking out and getting scoring chances... we held them to 4 or 5 goals in the 1st 2 periods, but with no subs, we lost some stamina in the 3rd and they smothered us... we played exceptional, despite the score, but we had no chance against a team so skilled... I'm not sure why they weren't in the upper league (if in fact, they're not) and I can only hope there are more amateur teams like us for a more even match... hopefully, Mr. Walton has been watching and will ask more skilled teams to join the upper league...
  • goaltender situation: I was shelled with 53 shots in 30 minutes this game, with many well-placed shots... I felt "on" again and the score didn't give me justice, in my opinion... but now on to the regular season... hope to play as well as I have been...
