Chapter 1 - Murder |

I was eating lunch, at my house, when the news came on TV. The first thing that came on was about a murder. A young girl had been shot. Her name was... Wendy! I froze. Yep, it was Wendy. I ran to the phone, (glad I was home alone!) and rang Amy. "Did you see the news?!" I almost shouted. "Uh huh," she replied, "check the TV." I turned to the TV. Isaac? In trouble with the police? Murder? Wendy? "It's wrong, he wouldn't do that," I said. "I know," Amy replied, "and I think I know who did it." I hesitated. "Who?" I asked. "Let's just say we're in deep trouble, again," she replied. "I don't like the sound of that," I said, then said goodbye. When I saw the TV again, it said when he was going to court. I told myself to be there. A while after, the phone rang. It was Amy. "Taylor and Zac are on their way over," she said, then hung up before I could reply. 'To my house, or Australia?' I wondered. I soon got an answer. There was a knock at the door. It was them. I let them in straight away. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "Haven't you seen the news?' Zac asked. "I meant at my house," I replied. "We came to tell you not to go to court tomorrow," Taylor explained. "Why?" I asked. "It's too dangerous," he replied, "he will be there. To see Isaac blamed for something he didn't do, and us obviously afraid of something." Zac was watching TV while we were talking, more interested in news updates than the show he was 'supposedly' watching. "I don't care about him, I'm going," I said. "You're only putting yourself in danger," Taylor replied. Finally, a news update came on, and Zac's eyes were glued to the screen. "I don't care," I said, "I'm going to be there, for Isaac." "For Isaac's sake, stay away!" he said. "I know I'm stubborn, but you can't stop me from going," I said. Taylor sighed. "In that case, any chance of getting a lift?" he asked. "Just about a couple of robberies!" Zac called, and changed the channel. "David might be able to give us a lift," I suggested. Another update came on, and Zac's eyes were glued to the screen again. It was mostly the same thing on every update, but I don't think he cared. "Found one!" he called, without looking at us. "Do you want to ask him?" Taylor asked. I found his phone number and rang him. He said yes, and tha he'd look on the news for Isaac. I thinked him and hung up. "Is Amy going tomorrow?" I asked. "No, we convinced her not to," Taylor replied. Zac changed the channel again. "Unlike me," I added. "She won't get very close to the man," Taylor said. "Unlike me," I added. "Did you tell Brenden and Owen?" I asked. "Doesn't really matter with them, does it?" Taylor asked. "Not really," I replied. "Penny, Jane, Fred and Chester won't make it," I said. "What about Sharlene?" he asked. "She'll probably just show up," I replied. "Where are you staying tonight?" I asked. "Amy's," Taylor replied. "Found one!" Zac called. "Where's your brother and sisters?" I asked. "Back in Tulsa Taylor replied. "Are you sure you want to go tomorrow?" he asked. "Look, if I have to crawl on my hands and knees, I'll be there," I said. "We're going to see him this afternoon," he said. "I was thinking of going today myself," I said. "We'd better get back to Amy's," he said, heading to the front door, and yanking Zac up off the lounge on his way. "Oh, Amy's taking us to see Isaac, do you want to come with us?" he asked. "Sure," I replied, then they left. I kept the TV on, and copied Zac. At about four o'clock, they showed up, ready to go. On the way, we talked about what had happened about six months ago. I wonder what happened to Greg?" Amy asked. "Probably died in the house when the bomb went off," Zac suggested. "I don't think he'd be stupid enough to stay in the house," I said. "If he was still alive, I think he would have tried again by now," Taylor said. "What if it is Greg? The only person who knows who it is is Isaac, so obviously whoever did it put him behind bars to keep him quiet," I said. "We'll see if we can find out who it is when we talk to him," Amy suggested. Then we just talked about how Isaac had saved us from drowning, and how much trouble he'd been in those six months ago. When we arrived, we let Taylor talk to him first. He came out a while later, looking like he had news. "What?" Zac asked. "It's big bucks," he replied. "Who?" I asked. "You know, the guy who paid Greg to kill us," Taylor explained. "So he's decided to do it himself," Amy murmured. "This time it sounds like he's got guns," I said. Taylor nodded. "And this time they're not gonna give up until we're all dead. Then they're gonna make it look like Isaac commited suicide, by killing him while he's in jail," Taylor explained. "I just hope Wendy comes back and haunts them," Amy murmured. "I hope she kills them," I told her. Zac had gone in to see Isaac. "What else did he say?" Amy asked. "He explained what had happened with Wendy, how the men had held her in front of him when they killed her, then stayed to dob him in to the police," Taylor explained. Zac soon came out, and Amy went in. "What did he say?" I asked. "He said he's gonna tell Amy not to go back to her house," Zac replied. "Why?" Taylor asked. "Because they were going to kill her this afternoon, and leave the blame on me," Zac explained. Then he turned to me. "And they were going to kill you after to court tomorrow, and leave the blame on him," he said, nodding towards Taylor. "What? Like some... Hanson murder epidemic or something?" Taylor questioned. Zac shrugged. Amy came out soon after, and it was my turn to go in. Are you alright?" I asked him, as soon as I saw him. "Apart from seeing a friend murdered in front of my eyes, yeah," he replied. "To tell you the truth, I didn't think I was going to see you again," I said. "And what a situation to," we just happened to say together. We hesitated. "What was that about blaming Taylor and Zac for murdering me and Amy?" I asked. "It's somehing they said, just before they shot Wendy," he explained. Then he began to tell me the story of how it all happened, like he'd told Taylor. "...Wendy was there, with more men," he looked tearful, but held it in, good. "Then a man explained what was going to happen. He said how they were going to kill Amy, and leave the blame on Zac, how they were going to kill you, and leave the blame on Taylor. Then they said they were going to kill Wendy... that's when they killed her... and they said they were going to leave the blame on me. Then the police came, and they told them I'd used a certain gun to kill her, and now this is where I've ended up," he explained. "I guess you're not looking forward to tomorrow then," I said. He didn't reply. Then it was time for me to go. "See you tomorrow," I said. Then we all went back to my house, as it was too dangerous at Amy's. But then she, Taylor and Zac stayed over at David's again, for the night. |
