MUSABETSU KAKUTOU
SAOTOME-RYUU

Translated in English, it means Saotome School Of Anything-goes Martial Arts.
These techniques are used by Ranma, Genma, and/or Kumon Ryuu.

  • Neko-ken "cat punch"

A cat style martial arts technique Genma attempted to train Ranma in by wrapping him in fish paste cake and throwing him in a pit of starving cats, causing Ranma's ailurophobia. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 2. Volume 5 part 2.

  • Saotome-ryuu ougi "Saotome school secret technique"

A technique of last resort when faced with an undefeatable foe, employed by Ranma against Ryoga's Bakusai-ten-ketsu. It is made up of three parts: run, think, attack. In other words, run away and think up some way to attack again. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 11. Volume 6 part 7.

  • Mouko rakuchi-sei "fierce tiger falling down strength"

A secret technique of the Saotome school that Genma teaches a weakling Ranma after Happosai took away his strength with a special cautery. Place both hands on solid ground, face your opponent, and fawn saying "gomennasai, gomennasai, gomennasai..." ("I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."), emulating the posture of a tiger fallen from a cliff. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 49. Volume 13 part 4.

  • Saotome-ryuu urawaza hiougi
"Saotome school underhanded trick secret techniques"

Techniques employed by Ranma against an invincible Ryoga:

    • Rou-ga shuuhai-tai "wolf fang attack from behind figure"

Attacking from behind with hooked fingers like a the fangs of a pouncing wolf. The set-up: Ranma points behind Ryoga and cries "What's that!?"

    • Mouko ichigeki-tai "fierce tiger hit figure"

Striking from above like a tiger pinning its prey beneath its paw. The set-up: Ranma points at the floor, "Someone dropped 100 yen!"

    • Kaeru rekishi-tai "frog run over and killed figure"

Mowing down and crushing like a frog beneath a tire. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 61. Volume 14 part 8.

  • Gourmet de foie gras "Gourmet of goose liver"

An old secret martial arts dinner technique used by La Petit Bouche to be able to compete with his huge-mouthed contemporaries. Ranma independently realizes his secret-- throwing food from his plate into his competitors' mouths. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 87. Volume 16 part 11.

  • Maken doukoku-ha "demon dog wailing defeat"

A Saotome school secret technique that Genma teaches Ranma to deal with the shishi houkoudan. First, back out of "ki" projection range. Then, when you've put sufficient distance between yourself and the aggressor, yell insults ("ba-ka a-ho ma-nuke!"). Appearance: Nettouhen episode 124. Volume 20 part 4.

  • Hiryuu shouten-ha kaitei-ban: Hiryuu kourin-dan
"hiryuu shoutenha revised edition: flying dragon descent projectile"

  • Yamasen-ken "old as the hills punch"

A Saotome school technique used by Kumon Ryuu. He yells "Don't move" and then strikes while the opponent is surprised. Ryuu is searching for the Umisen-ken, with which the Yamasen-kan is paired. The basic principle of the yamasen-kan and umisen-kan techniques is that the body is like a house. The head is the attic, the chest is the entranceway, the arms are the gates, the back is the back door, and the legs are the stilts.

    • Mouko kaimon-ha "fierce tiger opening gate defeat"

A technique involving separating the opponent's arms with ones own and delivering a powerful kick through their guard. Appearance: Volume 28 part 1.

Ranma slips under Ryuu and striking all along both sides of his back. Appearance: Volume 28 part 4.
