Creation Guidelines

Do you have an idea for a Snapshot but aren't quite sure how to go about creating one? I've put together these guidelines to help you get started. Just remember that a Snapshot is a quick reference and that if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Submit a Snapshot

The first thing you need to make a Snapshot tutorial is the Snapshot template. It is a UFO file and you can download it here (261k).

Open the file in PhotoImpact and make the required changes, but in order to ensure quality tutorials, ALSO read and follow the guidelines below:

  • If your tutorial will not fit on one 400x400 pixel template and still make sense, make it into a full Web-page style tutorial instead.
  • Each time you open the template save as a file with the file name of your choice using the UFO format, then save as a gif or jpg, usually a gif is best for a Snapshot, when you are DONE. If any changes are needed later you will have the UFO to edit and quality won't be lost.
  • I suggest you save the finished file as something like snapshot-snapshottitle-yourname.gif so that when someone calls up the file in the future your name will be on there also (provided they don't change the name when they save it).
  • Post your Snapshot to the PIRC bulletin board Critic's Corner section so it can be tested.
  • Include your URL or e-mail on the bottom of the Snapshot so users can contact you if they have any questions.
  • If you need help with your tutorial, post it to the Critics Corner on the PIRC Bulletin Board and experienced tutorial writers will be happy to help you.
  • Once the Snapshot has been tested and everything appears to be OK, e-mail the tested, final version of the file to me at bauer@greatwebpages.com.
  • If the user needs additional files to complete the tutorial, include the file location in the tutorial and send the link or the actual file to me so I can include a link to it in the index.
  • If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Notes:

  1. The PhotoImpact Snapshots on this site have been created by various authors. I do not take responsibility for the accuracy or quality of any Snapshot that is not my own (Ginger Bauer). If you have questions about a particular Snapshot, please contact the author directly: The Snapshot author is listed on the bottom of the Snapshot. The Snapshots are ALL copyrighted so do not change the images in any way or redistribute them. You may harvest a Snapshot and open it in PI or save it to your Easy Palette to reference while working on the tutorial.
  2. Snapshots are generally created for PhotoImpact version 6, but feel free to try to adapt them to earlier versions of PhotoImpact.
  3. POE = Paint On Edge, POET = Paint On Edge Technique

If you'd like to link back to this site and need a button or banner, please use these (you may also use the banner as a coordinating header on your Snapshot site, if you have one):
