In fact, the present situation of the rolling stock of the EFPP would need no more explanations, since the attached photos are self-explaining. The material, abandoned in the yards, rip tracks and even in the sheds, never saw any kind of care.

Instead, some kind of attacks against the material has been done along the years, by thieves or even by personnel interested to take parts as souvenirs.

.Since 1983, when the operations ceased due to the bankruptcy of the cement mill, the owner doesn’t accept any kind of  intent to preserve the parts.

Individual efforts have been done by enthusiasts to clean locos or repair shed covers, but the owner refuses these collaborations, affirming that the material is still his property.

Nevertheless, as at the end of operations in 1983 many locos were still active, one can suppose that it will not be difficult to put one or two locos back on the rails…For the passenger cars, heavy jobs must be done, for the conservation of these peaces was not done properly, and they were not stored under sheds.

Preservation Process:

.

The first project to preserve the EFPP was elaborated in 1980, by the ABPF (Brazilian Railroads Preservation Association) but a decision by Government Preservation Department was taken merely in 1987, in a very confuse way.

The final document had no details about rolling stock or area limits. This resolution caused many losses to the owner, since many acres of land were acquired in the name of the railroad, even if these areas would not be used for operations.
In 1992, a group of interested railfans (some belonging to ABPF) started a project to define the important parts of land and rolling stock for the operations of the EFPP. The project took many years of job, in order to adapt the interests in preservation versus owner interests. The goal of the project was to keep with the preservation association, just the absolutely necessary items to allow safe operations, including areas for new sheds, yards, etc..

This project proved to be satisfactory, for in the last year, after many discussions with the Government Preservation Department, the owner has accepted the proposal of devolution of areas that will not be used by railroad operations. They have signed a “Intention Letter” to do a donnative act of material and right-of-way portions of the railroad. These portions are between kms. 2 and 16. There is no intention from Abdalla to cease Perus, Gato Preto and Cajamar yards, for there are plans to use these important parts of the railroad for other needs.

It seems that, after 21 years of trials, finally the fans will have chance to see railroad operating again.

We hope the material will have condition to be repaired!
