Perus Pirapora Railroad
.
Locomotive Roster
.
This roster comprises all locomotives that had worked on the rails of the EFPP, during the several phases. The roster was prepared after several years of search, by Nilson Rodrigues and Sergio Martire, taking in account some previous lists, elaborated by railroad historians like Carlheinz Hahmann and Charles Small. We could divide the phases as:
  • C.I.E.F.P.P. – Perus-Pirapora Industrial & Railroads Company: 1914 - 1940

  • E.F.P.P.     - Perus-Pirapora Railroad Company: 1940 - 1974

  • C.B.C.P.    - The Brazilian Portland Cement Co : 1926 - 1951

  • C.B.C.P.P.  - Perus Brazilian Portland Cement Co: 1951 - 1974

  • C.E.I.P.N.  - Brazilian Patrimony Incorporated Companies: 1974 – 1983

Readers must take in mind that after 1926, the rails of the EFPP were used by locos from EFPP and also CBCP. Although under same owner after 1951, the railroad was always a separate company. The last loco acquired by the EFPP itself, was Krauss nrº 6.  The first loco acquired by the CBCP was Alco no.1, in 1925.

Notes for abreviations on the roster:

“T” – Means side-tank
“ST” – Means saddle-tank
“STT” – Means saddle tank loco with added tender
“TT” – Means loco tank with added tender
“CPEF” – Means Companhia Paulista
.

2-       Present Status/ Retirements / Notes to the Roster:

.

During their existencies, the companies that used the rails of the EFPP have bought many used locomotives, mainly from railroads that were changing gauges or ending operations at those times. For example, the CIEFPP sold the 4-6-0 locos and bought two used locos to replace; The CBCP bought 3 engines in 1943 from Dumont coffee farm; The CBCPP bought 3 engines in 1957 from the CPEF, and 4 engines in 1961 from several railroads.

In some cases the characteristics were altered, by addition of tenders or even by changing in the wheel arrangement. In this roster the locos are in a same group, not taking in account the railroad, when bought or incorporated. See the locomotive foto in “Foto Galery” section.

3-       Notes about the locomotives of the E.F.P.P.:

Notes by Carlheinz Hahmann and Charles Small, with additional searchs and additions by Nilson Rodrigues and Sergio Martire.

A-      Locos of EFPP:

1-     Locos 1, 2, 3, 4: These were the original locos bought by the CIEFPP at the beggining of operations. No other order was placed by Perus-Pirapora to a locomotive builder after this one. The 1 and 2, due to their size, operated for a short time and were transferred to “Estrada de Ferro Thereza Cristina” in 1925 as 20 & 21, the gauge was modified to 1,00m. They operated untill 1950, when were scrapped. Locos 3 & 4: altough of a 2-4-0 wheel arrangement, suitable for the EFPP rails, have vanished from the EFPP many years ago. The hystoric of these two locos is unknown...

2-       Loco 1 (2nd): Built by Baldwin in 1896 for the Cantareira Tramway nr. 6. Transferred to the EFPP in 1925 to replace original nr.1. Its normal duty in the EFPP during the years was to handle the passenger train called “M” (mixt). Retired in 1972, shortly after passenger service was discontinued. A plate with “Dr. Silvio de Campos” name was added to its cab in honor of the man which conceived the creation of EFPP.

3-       Loco 2 (2nd): Received in the same time of 1 (2o.) to replace original nr.2. Of typical Baldwin design, an interesting tender for wood was added in the EFPP.The name “Florindo Beneducce” was attached to its cab,in honor of mr. Florindo Beneducce, one of the founders of CIEFPP. Mr. Beneducce was an italian, pionner of lime mining in Brazil.

4-       Loco 5: Built by Hohenzollern in 1912. Sent to “Lion & Co.”, Brazil (railway material distributor) and acquired by the EFPP in approx. 1940. Named “São Paulo”, nicknamed “Chumbão” (big lead). Retired in 1958, it is stored in Cajamar, in bad conditions.

5-       Loco 6: Built by Krauss in 1908, was one of the locos used by the “Sanitary Comission” of the Santos city. This Comission was responsible for the construction of the canals of the city. Came to EFPP in approx. 1940. Retired in 1960, stored in Cajamar, in bad conditions.

B-      Locos of the CBCP, CBCPP, CEIPN...

6-       Locos 7, 8 and 9: Built by Orenstein & Koppel in 1912, although loco nr. 8 shows in its plate the “Decauville” name. These locos worked originally in the mines of the CIEFPP, transporting lime to the kilns at Gato Preto. Later were incorporated in the CBCP roster, as 7, 8 and 9. There is no data about nr.9

7-       Loco 9 (2o.): Built by Linke-Hoffmann for the Paulista (no. 920), came to EFPP in 1957, when the 60cm branchs were closed. Operated on the EFPP between 1957 and 1962, when its boiler burned. Stored in Cajamar, in derelict condition.

8-       Loco 10: Built by Baldwin for the Paulista, nr.911, also came to EFPP in 1957. In the EFPP shops, a modification was made by adding a tender for oil & water. The side-tanks were retained, full with sand, in order to gain tractive-effort.

9-      Loco 11: Built by Baldwin for the Dumont coffee farms. Is the oldest of the roster, being built in 1891. Acquired in 1943. Has been extensively modified during its career, including: cab changes, leading truck added, enlarged smoke-box , and reverse-link added. Active in 1983, when operations ceased.

10-  Loco 12: Built by Baldwin for the “Cerâmica São-Carlense” in 1895, having passed by the Dumont coffee farms (nr.5) and later came to EFPP in 1943. Retired in 1973, this loco was sent back to Dumont-SP, less tender.

11-   Loco 13: Built by Baldwin for the Dumont coffee farms (nr.4) in 1900, came to the EFPP in 1943, but due to its size, could not negotiate the curves of the EFPP. Retired in 1956, is stored less-wheels and cab in bad conditions in Cajamar.

12-   Loco 14: Sister of nr.10, built by Baldwin for the Paulista nr. 910, came to EFPP in 1957. As nr.10, has received a tender, but keeping side-tanks for better addesion.

13-   Loco 15: Built by Baldwin for Ramal Ferreo Campineiro #2, its original wheels were 2-6-2T. The foto shows it as 2-6-0, with an oil-water tender added. The side-tanks were removed. Prior to come to EFPP in 1961, it had worked in the Cantareira Tramway as nr. 10(2nd), later Usina Monte Alegre, and finally EFPP. In bad conditions in Cajamar.

14-   Loco 16: Built by Baldwin for Dourado Railroad Co. in 1908, nr.5, transferred to Cantareira Tramway #16, later Usina Monte Alegre #12, and finally EFPP nr.16. During its career, had suffered few modifications, keeping its beautiful original appearence.

15-   Loco 17: Built by Baldwin for Cantareira Tramway, its nr.2 (2nd) in 1911. In 1958 went to Usina Monte Alegre in Piracicaba-SP, as #4. In 1961, along with locos 15, 16 and 18, came to EFPP as 17. The wood-burning system has been kept intact.
