Runescripts

"Runescripts are groups of runes arranged in a straight line that indicate a certain outcome by their positioning". This is certainly a good, concise description of what a runescript is, and how it differs from a bindrune. It is essentially a magickal sentence, where the words are replaced by runes, and conjunctions like and, if and or are disregarded.

Runescripts are usually composed of three, five, seven or nine runes, and eleven and thirteen can be used, although it is often not necessary to use that many runes. In general, being concise is a good way of being exact, and the fewer runes you use, the better. Numerical values for the number of runes can also be used, with three good for growth and increase, five for protection, defense and victory, seven for love, and nine for destiny (it being the number of the Norns).

The first and last runes are the most important runes in the script. They symbolise how you want the operation to start and end up respectively. The rest symbolise the forces which are used in the space and time between.

These rune scripts can be carved into tines, or drawn on to paper to aid you in meditation, or other magickal works.

The following should only ever be used as examples, because the power of a runescript lies in the energy you place into it through the magickal process of creation. These will give you an idea of how to make your own runescripts for each individual purpose.

This runescript is used for a love talisman. Firstly, Uruz symbolises change (i.e. a change in your position in or out of a relationship). Kenaz symbolises passions and is a strengthening influence in the operation. Nied symbolises the intense need for love as well as having the power to draw a lover to you. Gifu symbolises love and partnership. Wunjo is in this place to push the issue. Thurisaz symbolises the happiness you hope to attain. Ing often ends runescripts, as it 'seals in' the power of the script. There are seven runes in the script, because it is a script of love.

This runescript could be used to attain money. Daeg symbolises new beginnings and financial increase. Fehu symbolises the money itself. Othel protects the possessions you will eventually attain. There are three runes in this script because it is used for an increase or growth of financial matters.
