This is the current basic plan for extending Stoneybridge West which will add a double track loopback board to one end of the layout for exhibition use. I will also make a very short (22 inch) loopback board that will enable me to run the layout at home. The short-run loopback board will have some scenic cover giving me the option to exhibit the layout in its short-run form where space is at a premium, only using the full long-run layout for larger exhibition rooms or halls. The existing `A' board measures 23 inches, front to back at the widest point (the Loopback under the town end) and the existing `B' board is 18 inches wide over its entire length. The proposed new Loopback `C' will have a reverse curve turning towards the front of the layout giving the impression that the rails enter the tunnel and continue off the boards, helping to make the inevitable tight curves at each end of the layout less obvious.
This plan is still in active development and subject to changes. The most probable is another board between the `B' board and loopback `C' board which would give more storage loops/sidings behind the backscenes and allow for a bit more `countryside' on the scenic areas. This would most probably be built after completion of the `C' board to expand the layout further for exhibition use.
