"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers... choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mindnumbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose Life ... But why would I want to do a thing like that?" Mark Renton

The Film: Set In Edinburgh Scotland. This is a film about 4 friends, one being Mark Renton and follows his attempt to give up his heroin habit and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of his friends. The friends attempt the drug-deal of a lifetime, which inevitably leads to double-crossing and betrayal, and destroys their tenuous friendship, with Renton ironically using the drug that previously owned him to move on to a better, drug-free existence.

My Comments: I loved this film. When I hired this film I sat down and started to watch it and thought to myself.."Why am I watching this film, its not the sort of film I enjoy", but being a Ewan McGregor film I thought I would watch it all the way through just to see Ewan. At first it took me a while to get used to their Scottish accents and all the swearing, but once I forgot this I really enjoyed Trainspotting. The four friends were such lowlife trash. But I was drawn to them, I cried and took pity for them and then I cheered for Renton when it looked like he was going to come clean. The four actors were brilliant, especially Ewan as Mark Renton.. I will never forget his performance as the desperate and hopeless Mark. I will also never forget that speech "Choose Life" What immortal words.

I Rate This Movie: 10 out of 10
