The Film: Ben Bolt's direction of Scarlet and Black is a worthy effort that translates the period romanticism with relish. The French romantic novel is visually brought to life by actor Ewan McGregor as Julian Sorrel, a young man of ambition and robust desire. Set in the beautiful estate country side, with stunning period costumes, and the pace that makes BBC drama the best.
