The Film:A small Yorkshire mining town is threatened with being shut down and the only hope for the town's men is to enter their Grimley Colliery Brass Band into a national competition. They believe they have no hope until Gloria appears carrying her Flugelhorn. At first mocked for being a woman, she soon becomes the only chance for the band to win. In joining the band she puts her relationship with her childhood sweetheart Andy on the line.

My Comments: This film deals with social issues and succeeds with its message. The father and son characters, of Pete Postlethwaite and Stephen Tompkinson was outstanding. I was crying for the father and son. I felt for Danny and his son Phil. The poverty of the mining village really hit me. I had never seen such poverty in a film like this before...I think Pete and Stephen made the film with their outstanding acting. Ewan was good, but I was so taken by the other two that Ewan was pushed to the background a bit..Hate to say that..smiles

I Rate This Movie: 10 out of 10
