Best Quote: "I have acquired a pod in a game of chance. The fastest ever built." "I hope you didn't kill anyone I know for it..." - Watto & Qui-Gon Jin

It is 30 years before the events of Star Wars. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is just a padawan, being trained by his master, Qui-Gon Jin (Liam Neeson).

On a mission to stop a dispute between the peaceful Naboo and the greedy Trade Federation, the two Jedi are forced to flee to the planet Naboo. In order to warn it's Queen (Natalie Portman) of an impending attack by the droid army of the federation, they enlist the help of a creature from the planet, named Jar Jar (Ahmed Best), who is a Gungan. The Jedi align themselves with the Gungans, a race of underwater creatures with big ears.

The Gungans (with a little persuision) help the Jedi make it to the capital city of Theed to meet the Queen. But, with all the Federation droids all over the place, they are forced to flee to Coruscant, to the Republic's capital city. But they don't make it. Forced to land on a small, unknown planet named Tatooine, after their ship is damaged, Qui-Gon meets a young boy named Anakin (Jake Llyod) who has extrodinary Jedi Potential.

Qui-Gon Jin must now gamble for parts to fix the ship, and to free the slave-boy, Anakin. Qui-Gon belives that this boy will put the "Force" into blance.

Anakin races in a pod race, and wins, ensuring his freedom and the parts to fix the ship. Soon, the whole crew is on it's way to Coruscant. Little do the Jedi know that the sith are planning to attack and wipe out the Jedi that nearly wiped them out. Darth Sidius (Ian McDiarmid) is taking matters into his own hands...

The Jedi and the Queen stay on Coruscant long enough to meet with the Jedi Council and the Sennate. Soon they return to Naboo to be with the Queen's people, and to face evil in one final, climatic battle.

Although not as good as the originals, there are A LOT of Visual effects shots, and the acting is OK, but not great. But, to what can be done with computers these days is simply amazing.

Plot:
Ohhh George, couldn't you think up a better plot? Don't get me wrong, it was decent, but could have been better. The Final fight scenes (the space dog-fight, the ground battle, and the Jedi duel) are very good. It's just the middle of the movie that lags.

Visual Effects:
George Lucas, YOU DA MAN! These graphics are unlike anything ever seen. They are crisp, clean, and brilliant. The best effects are the final battles and the Pod Race. The Pod Race is spectacular... seeing all the pods blowing up, parts flying everywhere, tiny screws going this way and that... it's this attention to detail that makes a good film.

Sound:
There is only John William's score here, and the pseudo-song "Duel of the fates," but that's great! The sound effects are all hand made with various everyday objects. No one makes sound effects like the people at Skywalker Sound!

Character Development:
All the characters go through changes; Anakin perhaps the most, as he learns that he is to become a Jedi. Qui-Gon dies, as does Darth Maul. The Queen and becomes stronger through dealing with the Trade Federation, and Obi-Wan becomes a full Jedi.

Atmosphere:
Although not as wonderful as the original Star Wars, it does have it's moments and will keep you glued to the picture.

Realism:
Space has hardly been explored at all, but who really knows what's going on in that galaxy far, far away?
