Oscar (Will Smith) is a lowly fish, working at a whale washing station. Oscar wants to be somebody; to live in the best building and have the coolest friends. But he can't seem to get his life together. There is even a girl, Angie (Renée Zellweger), who is in love with him, but he is too stupid to see it.
Oscar's fortune's change when he pretends to have killed a shark. But this dead shark wasn't just any shark. It was Frankie, who happened to be the son of Don Lino (Robert De Niro), the mob-boss shark of all sharks.
Oweing 5,000 to his boss and being sought by the Mob, Oscar now has two options: make like he is a hero by lying and liveing the high life, or go back to being a nobody. Oscar chooses to lie.
In 2003, Finding Nemo was the hit of the year. Shark Tale is no Finding Nemo by a long shot.
The attention to detail in Finding Nemo was exceptional. The characters were belivable and funny. The settings were well designed and the computer graphics made the movie seem so real. In Shark Tale, however, the overall picture looked too cartoony. The water, for one thing, didn't look as good as in Nemo. The sharks didn't look as good, nor did many of the different types of fish.
I found Oscar to be unbelivable as the central character. I didn't really think that he could be this big hero. The Design of OScar even look weird to me; not like the real fish that the characaters of Finding Nemowere based on. Even Oscar's voice, Will Smith, didn't seem to fit quite right.
Overall, Shark Tale felt like a cheeper rip-off of Finding Nemo. It was made to capitalize on the people who liked Nemo and though that that's what they would be seeing again. But they were wrong.
Plot:
Shark Tale does have a decent plot, and it is easy to follow.
Animation:
The animation of Shark Tale wasn't as good as it could have been. Hate to say it, but the animation of Finding Nemo was just way better.
Sound:
There was a decent soundtrack to the film which works well.
Character Development:
About 10 minutes into the film we kinda know what's going to happen to our main characters. It's easy to figure out what will happen at the end of the film. The character development aspect of the film is revealed early on in the film, so we can guess the ending quickly.
Atmosphere:
Another children's movie (which the young ones will love) with adult overtones.
Realism:
Not as good as Finding Nemo. Sorry, but the fish and sea-creatures looked way beter in Nemo.
Warren’s Rating:
Movies it was nominated with for Best Animated Feature:
None, yet.
Is the movie worth your time to watch?
Watch Finding Nemo first, and if you like that, then watch Shark Tale.
