On a coral reef, two clown fish, Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Coral, live in an anemonie. They are about to have 400 children, who will hatch out of fish eggs. However, there is a tragedy one day and Coral is eaten. Three hundred ninty-nine of the four hundred fish eggs are also eaten.
Marlin, devistated, devotes his life to protecting the one egg that escaped the massacre. His only son, who he named Nemo (Alexander Gould), soon takes up all his time. Marlin is a bit over protective, you might say. Well, just a tad.
Time passes, and before we know it, it is Nemo's first day of school. While out at "the dropoff," on a first-day trip, Nemo and some new friends see a boat off in the distance. They decide to go out and touch it.
Long story short, Nemo is taken by a diver and put into a fish tank somewhere in Sydney, Australia.
Marlin makes it his mission to rescue his son. With the help of his new friend, Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) [who just happens to suffer from short-term memory loss], Marlin may just be able to save his son...
Of all the movies Pixar Animation has made, and of all the other computer-animated films produced since Toy Story in 1995, Finding Nemo is the absolute best.
To top off a great movie, Pixar gave us a winning story to back Exceptional animation and superb voice acting.
I hadn't seen Nemo untill it came out on DVD, but by that time I knew that it was a great movie. After all, it had made over $200,000,000 at the box office, and them it sold 8,000,000 copies on the first day of it's release! Stunning!
Finding Nemo isn't really a buddy comedy like Monster's Inc. or Toy Story, but it does have the same charm as all other Pixar films.
Pixar knows how to endear its movies to the pulic, and they do it well.
Plot:
The story is simple, and the characters are beliveable. Dory is REALLY funny.
Animation:
The animation is just waaay too good. The water actually looks like ocean water and the fish look like real fish. Exceptional animation!
Sound:
There is only one song, "Beyond the Sea," and it is a well choosen song for this picture.
Pixar has been well known for the way it creates sound effects, and has two Oscar nominations to show for it.
Character Development:
There is a some development in most characters. we don't learn a lot about most of the characters; we would like to, but we don't. Most characters stay static.
Atmosphere:
This is a very easy film to get into. It not just for kids, as many would belive. It has many adult overtones, so no matter what age you are, you will like this film.
Realism:
Warren’s Rating:
Movies it was nominated with for Best Animated Feature:
Brother Bear; Les Triplettes de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville)
