Best quote: "They're just Canadians... they're practically the 51st state..." -Stuart Smiley

"First of all, there is no Canadian culture. I've never read any Canadian literature. And when have you ever heard anyone say, 'Honey, lets stay in and order some Canadian food'?" - Stuart Smiley

"...Congress is also asking intelligence angencies to investigate why the Canadians maintain a threatening lead in zamboni technology..." - Narrator

The American Prsident's (Alan Alda) aprooval rating is dropping fast, and he needs something to gain back the drops so he will win another term in office.

There are no more Russians to fight with, so the President's staff must find a new enemy to conqure... and so it is that they discover the soverign nation of Canada.

A national fear campaign is thrown into the faces of the American people. In one town, Niagra Falls New York, a recently laid-off worker-turned-sherrif named Bud Boomer (John Candy) launches his own campaign against the Canadians when his deputy (Phea Perlman) is left stranded in Canada.

But what Bud doesn't know is that missiles are about to be launched at Russia, seemingly by the Canadians, and the President is powerless to stop it.

Personal Comments

This movie is a political satire by Michael Moore (Bowling For Columbine and Farenheit 9/11) about American policies and the things they will do to gain aprooval of the people.

Being a Canadian, I loved the film. Michael Moore must have used every Canadian stereotype going, from the country being covered in snow (as I sit here, the temperature is +29° and I am just sweltering [For those of you non-metric types, 29° is HOT]) to us, saying a-boot instead of about (we don't do that, ever). He uses them all.

Moore hits the nail on the head in this film: simple American sterotypes which are not true; how the American people will belive anything they are told.

Still, the movie is side splittingly funny-as-hell.

Plot:
Great plot. Very funny and original. Moore is brilliant, once agian.

Basic visual effects.

Atmosphere:
From the word go, this film is so funy that you get sucked into it almost immediatly. For Canadians, this is a delightful treat. For Americans, They might like or hate it, depending on if they like or hate Michael Moore. No, he is not an American hater, but he does have valid points if only people would listen to him.

Realism:
America would NEVER go to war with Canada. Period.
