Best quote: "You don't need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullit control! We need to control the bullits, that's right!

I think Bullits should cost $5,000. $5,000 for a bullit. You know why? 'Cause if a bullit cost $5,000, there'd be no more innocent bystanders.

Every time people are shot, people'd be like, "Damn! He musta done somethin'! They put $50,000 worth of bullits in his ass!"

People'd think before they killed somebody if a bullit cost $5,000. "Man I would blow your ****in' head off if... I could afford it! I'm gonna get another job, start savin' some money, and you a dead man! You better hope I can't get bullits on layaway!"" - Chris Rock

Having seen Roger & Me some years ago, and then Farenheit 9/11, I knew what to expect from Michael Moore. I knew that Bowling for Columbine was an exceptional film, but I didn't know just how great it actually was.

This is a film all of America must see, and even my native Canada. The film deels with the Columbine massacre; how two teens were able to aquire guns and ammunition, why they did what they did and how Michael Moore and two victims of Columbine were able to get K-Mart to stop selling gun ammunition within 90 days of their protest.

Moore interviews Marylin Manson, the teacher of a 6-year-old girl killed in her own classroom with a gun, and charleton heston, the biggest thing wrong with the nra. Remember folks, he's over 80. Not long now!

The interviews are done very well; Marylin Manson is actually an intelligent person and not he psyco freak everyone thinks he is. Michael Moore tries his best to get results from the people he talks to, but to no avail (except in the K-Mart deal).

The film goes on to deal with America's fears and how those fears are translated into violence, how the government uses that fear to push it's agenda, and how the media and coporate America uses this fear to sell it's products.

Personal Comments

Roger Ebert was right:

"Everyone needs to see this film."

I can't belive the the US had over 11,000 deaths by guns! Holy $#!t!!

The US, a population of 300,000,000 had over 11,000 deaths by guns in 1999 (1 in 27,272). Canada, 30,000,000 people, had 168 (1 in 178,571). Australia (18,000,000 people) had 65 (1 in 264,705) and The United Kingdom (56,000,000 people) had 65 (1 in 861,538).

You also have to realize that the US has the third largest population in the world. They have 300,000,000 people. So if you cross-multiply and divide 165 deaths by US's pop and Canada's population, you get 1650 people dead. Working with the same formula, you get 364 deaths by guns in the United Kingdom and for Australia it's 1083. WAAAAAY below the US popu

The worst part of the film is when carleton heston refuses to look at the picture of the little girl killed in Flint, Michigan. He knows that guns are the cause but can't even look at the little girl's face. I mean, I knew him from The Ten Commandments, which is one of my highest rated films, but I never knew he was an asshole, too. There is no reason on Earth that people need to own guns. NONE. Why else would you own on other than to kill something? Excuse me if i'm wrong, but that is the whole point of the gun, right?

Chris Rock was right, though: If bullits cost $5,000, people would think twice about wasting them, wouldn't they?

Plot:
A movie that needs to be seen by EVERYONE. Moore is a genius.

Visual Effects:
There is no cinematography in the film; the basic camera recordings are of a camara man following moore around. these spots are intercut with interviews, a comedy routine (which hits the nail on the head), and news clips.

However, these are all edited together perfectly, making this film even better.

Sound:
Every song used in the film is placed in such away that it enhances the mood of the scene it is in and the message that he is trying to get across to the audience. This is successfully achieved many times throughout the entire film.

Character Development:
There is no character development. No one changes in any way (except K-Mart, which isn't a person). charleton heston stays an asshole; gun loves stay gun lovers, and sadly, several people had been killed (The focus of many points in the film).

Atmosphere:
It's such a gripping story that you can't help but watch.

Realism:
The best part of this film is that it's all true.

OF COURSE, Michael Moor bent the facts to suit the way HE felt they should go. He never does tell the OTHER side of the story, but that is all forgiven.
