Daniel had been in the NICU
for a month when everything had settled down, They said
he
could come home! He weighed 1,900 grams, and was on: pentivite (daily),
acid (weekly), Iron (daily), and diaoxide every 8 hours, no leanway!
So they got me to room in on the weekend to teach me how to care for
him, (make formula LOL) and to get the meds right. I had to go up to
NICU for his meds because he was beside with me at last!
Well, Monday came around
and we were very ready. Up to NICU to get the meds. It was very exciting!
UNTIL .. They told us we had to take Daniel's blood!! What? How? Why?
He is better damn it! Well guess what, we all, husband, baby and mother
spent that night on the children's ward to learn how to take his blood,
(more important than formula). So we learned how to prick his heel and
do a blood reading; what was high, what was low, what signs to look
out for if he was going into a coma, etc.
Tuesday, we Fly out the door!
Oh, the trip home was so great and funny. Daniel was strapped in the
capsule. He was sitting on his feet with his arms over his head because
the velcro took the covers off his body. It was funny! We got home Ok
and settled in fine. I was not worried or nervous at all. We had got
a new alarm clock to wake us when he was due for his Diaoxide (4am).
Everything was great UNTIL .. Three days after getting home, my daughter
Niaomie called me in to look at Daniel's scrotum. It was all swollen,
so we rushed to the nearest hospital. They sent us back to J/H and at
3 am we were seen. Daniel had a hernia. He also had a checkup that day
at J/H, so they sent us home to come back on the same day to be seen
by the NICU pediatricians. The docs looked and said he needed surgery.
He was put on the "rush" list, but meanwhile, we have to roll
the hernia back into his belly. If we could not do this within 1 hour
we had to rush him back because it would kill in 3 hours. Like we really
need this!
Daniel was operated on 1
week after he was givin back to us. They were great :) So very nice!
They asked if they could look at the other side of his belly just in
case. We said ok. We were lucky we did, as he also had a hernia there!
So, Daniel now has a scar the same as the one I got with the C-section!
Daniel stayed 1 week and home he came - for a while this time!
Daniel came home and all
was well after his operation. He was so tiny, so cute AND a pain!! All
he did was scream all day from 7am til 12pm. This was horrid. I knew
something was wrong, but every time we went to the pediatrician, he
could find nothing. At 6 months I was ready to scream (and the rest
of the family too)! The pediatrician said he would put him in the hospital
for observation, and also to take him off his meds. (Dan had reoccurring
bronchitis also).
So into J/H again .. sigh
.. We stayed a week. They fasted Dan for 24 hours to see if his blood
sugar levels would stay normal, and they DID! The reason for the screaming
could not be identified, but they did say they felt sorry for me! (HAHAHA
.. real funny!) We came home and Niaomie was reading a baby book and
said, "He sounds like he has milk intolerance." BINGO! We
went to soy milk straight away, and I finally had a normal baby! YAAAAAAA
