I'm Pregnant!

While we did want to have a little bunny, we were quite surprised to find out we were pregnant as mommy wanted to finish her master's degree first.  Mommy took four tests as the first one the line wasn't all that 'strong'.  She thought it was because she bought the generic tests.  To tell daddy mommy wrote him a little note and taped the movie 9 Months to the door of the house (through the garage of course).  Daddy was instantly excited =).  Then became the long journey of pregnancy.

Boy or Girl Correct Predictions

Lou - I thought you would have a girl, mainly because you got on so well with pup and gary with his niece.  I think girls are easier; I think you will  have more than one kid, so better to start with the easy first...
Sara - YOU'RE HAVING A GIRL    JUST WHAT I WANTED
Grandpa Hull - It is a girl--im psychic and never wrong--
Marie - Ok - in 1963 I was born in 1973 you (Didi) were born, in 1983 Katrina was born, in 1993 Sara was born
We need a girl for 2003 (unless of course Kyle will end up marrying a girl born in 2003).

We find out:   We ended up being able to sneak a peak at you about three times (normally you only get one).  The first time we found out you were a girl.  The doctor told us you were due on Christmas, but the ultrasound had you due on New Year's Eve.  The second ultrasound mommy and daddy did just for fun.  We wanted to see a 3D picture of our little bunny.  We were calling you Chipo at the time as daddy was pretending he wanted to name you that (it was in one of those name books).  The third ultrasound was because mommy's belly was not growing as much as expected.  At that one we found out you had lots of hair!  The lady doing the ultrasound kept commenting on how much hair you had.  I commented you had better have lots of hair with all the heartburn you have me!

You did like to hide during the ultrasounds!  You were not a big fan of those.  Knowing how you are now, I can understand now that you would hide.  You are a bit sensitive to certain changes in the environment.

Birth Story - as mommy shared on her pregnancy message board

Well my baby girl Maya was born yesterday, December 9 at 2:38pm.  She is only 5 lbs 9 oz - little peanut!  She's 17.5 inches long and has a good set of hair.  I'm still in a fog a bit as I had the flu and was just passed the worst part when my water broke at 2 am!  To think just the day before I was vomiting in a trash can while taking a final exam!

Never having had a child before I was not sure what was up with pink/red a little stringy but much more watery stuff starting coming out.  It didn't stop.  I was like geesh how much comes out with a plug.  Then I realized it must have been both the plug and my water breaking together.  I called the doctor at 6am to confirm after a quick call to my parents to make sure I wasn't being stupid!  They started packing their bags.

At least we were able to get organized a bit and get our dog to daycare....and I scrambled to get those missing pieces into my bag.  I was surprisingly calm and methodical.  I didn't tell my dh until he got up to go to work.  He was nervous, but not like what I expected him to be.  We get to the hospital. (about 8:30am)...i was dialated to 2cm 80% effaced.  They started me on pit (the pits!) ....(about 10am).  The contractions got stronger and very close together.  Dh helped me with the breathing and was constantly giving praises.  It's amazing how much that helped.  Funny part - the doctor called and dh answered the phone.  The dr. thought that he was the nurse and asked him to see if there was a change in dilation!!!

Nurse encouraged me to get the epi, (at 4/5 cm) and I listened though scared to death.  SOOOOOOOOO glad I did even though I could still feel the contractions after even with adjustment because I went to 10cm already and was ready to roll!  They scrambled to get people in the room and get everything ready/dr and all!  Not even 10 minutes of pushing and bam she was out!!

Maya looked at me with bugged out eyes!  She was like what is going on????  She's so cute and sooo tiny.
