Mawata is one of the major characters in the anime Shin Shirayuki Hime Densetsu Pretear. While it`s fairly obvious from the beginning that there`s a lot more to her than just a bit player, her role in the series is irreplacable. She is the stepsister of the main character, Himeno Awayuki. Mawata`s birth name is Mawata Houjo, but when Himeno`s father, Kaoru Awayuki, married Mawata`s mother, Natsue, her name was changed as well.

Mawata is beautiful, popular, rich, and smart, but she is not by any means happy. More than anything, Mawata longs for her deceased father and resents Himeno and Kaoru for taking his place in her family. She is not understood by Natsue, or by her older sister Mayune. Her only comfort in the world is the radio show Wordsgate put on by Sasame of the Leafe Knights. Mawata is quite in love with Sasame, although she has never met him. Under the name "Silk-san" she`s sent him many postcards asking for advice on his show. Sasame and Wordsgate are essentially all that keeps her going from day to day.

She seems snooty and withdrawn at first glance, disturbed and almost frightening at second, but beneath it all Mawata is just a little girl who deeply misses her Daddy.
