Elizabeth was born on 4 July 1736 in Welton, Northamptonshire. Her parents were Joshua and Elizabeth Wafforn (formerly Hill). She was the third of seven known children, her siblings being; Joseph (b.1927), John (b.1730), Joshua (b.1738), James (b.1741), Frances (b.1744) and Mary (b.1748). On 31 October 1755 Elizabeth marries Thomas Masters and they go on to have at least seven children; Elizabeth (b.1757), Thomas (b.1760), John (b.1762), Ann (b.1765), Mary (b.1769), Joseph (b.1772) and William (b.1775). Elizabeth, dies on 19 October 1782 at approximately forty three years of age leaving Thomas to raise the family by himself. Their children would have been aged as follows; Elizabeth - 25, Thomas - 22, John - 20, Ann - 17, Mary - 13, Joseph - 10 and William - 7. However, Elizabeth and Thomas had left the family home to marry so it is expected that John and Ann may have taken on a lot of responsibilities for the running of the household till their father re-married. |
