Sarah was born in 1764, probably in either Staverton or Wolfhamcote. I don't know who her parents were. The Church of Latter Day Saints web site records her marrying John Masters in approximately 1787. I have since found their marriage as being on 29 May 1786 in Wolfhamcote, which could be Sarah's home parish. They go on to have eight children, as listed above. Sarah died in 1834 so that by the time of the first official census in 1841 her husband, John, is listed as a widower. Sarah's ancestry is of great interest because of the famous Spencer family roots in Northamptonshire. This family name has been researched back to the Norman invasion of Britain and includes such famous descendants as Princess Diana, Winston Churchill and George Bush. These three illustrious figures all share a common ancestor, Henry Spencer of Badby, Northamptonshire (1420-1478). It is highly likely that Sarah was born in either Staverton, Badby or Wolfhamcote and that she may be a direct descendant of Henry Spencer. At present I know nothing for certain of Sarah's ancestry. It is likely that she (and I) are distantly related to the famous Spencer family line though probably impossible to prove. |
