BIOGRAPHY:
Elizabeth was born in Warwickshire in approximately 1799. I do not know her parent's names. By the time of the first census in 1841 Elizabeth was married to Joseph Masters. Elizabeth was 42 and Joseph 39 years old. They had three children; John (b.1828), Sarah (b.1832) and William (b.1835).

On 16 December 1846 Elizabeth died of consumption in Willoughby.

Consumption was described in Webster's 1913 dictionary as

A progressive wasting away of the body; esp., that form of wasting, attendant upon pulmonary phthisis and associated with cough, spitting of blood, hectic fever, etc.; pulmonary phthisis; - called also {pulmonary consumption}.

The death was not certified by a coroner and the informant was Alice Lowke, of Willoughby. She can be seen on the 1841 census listed below as a neighbour, living two doors away. She was no more than five years older than Elizabeth so may have been a close friend.

Eighteen months later Joseph had re-married to Mary Baydon (formerly Lord) of Dunchurch and they had a further three children. In fact, their first child, born in 1850, was called Elizabeth. This could well have been in honour of his recently deceased first wife.
