Mary Taylor was born in approximately 1834 in Pittington, County Durham. I don't know who her parents were or whether she had any siblings. At some time before the 1881 census Mary married Michael Parkin as the census records them as married with one daughter (Mary Parkin b.1875/76), two boarders (George and Joseph Spores) and a domestic servant (Jemima Innes). Mary's maiden name can be determined to be Taylor as when their daughter, Mary, married in 1892 she officially records her name as Mary Taylor Parkin. I cannot definately find reference to either Michael or Mary in the 1901 census so it is possible they may have been dead by this time. One possibility is a Mary Parkin who is recorded as sixty-three years old and living in Colliery Row, County Durham. Colliery Row is the name of a street in Ryhope that was meant for miners retirement homes. This Mary records her birthplace as Belmont, Durham which is very close to Pittington. It is unclear whether this is the same Mary Parkin.
