These are some of my best haiku and senryu of 1996.

In retrospect, it appears I was at my most productive that year...
Some of the poems were excellent (I still like to read them),
some good... and some... oh dear...

slush to ice
and back again:
January.
high again
I stagger home –
another movie
Lovecraft
and tea for one:
a good night

In 1996, I worked at a medical library where I was actually encouraged to write haiku!
in the storeroom
old books crumble
without a touch
mailing poems at work:
boss looks on
approvingly
...and when the job ended...
this day
busy as any other
but the boss shook my hand
stormy day
but after the rain
birds sing louder
high in a tree
a joyous chaffinch;
I whistle too
against the winds
and through the sleet
towards birdsong
under the trees
Scout leaders serve
jokes and pancakes
a sunny day
don't know if it's
Friday or Tuesday
long path
from the empty mailbox
in the heat
in a silent house
except for the snoring
I finish a drawing
at a party
I am embraced
by my thick sweater
