There was a dark period in America that many people wishedcould be erased from memory as well as the history books. But history cannot be erased because we live it and make it each
day of our lives.
From experiences, one is led to believe that history tends to repeat itself. However, there have been some experiences that one would hope never surfaces again. One such experience is
what too k place in the United States between the latter part of the 19th century
and the first half of the 20th century. It’s the subject of lynchings.
An estimated four thousand people, overwhelmingly black African-Americans, and some innocently, were lynched by angry mobs in various states. They never
saw true justice. It’s a period Americans are, and should be ashamed of because of its cherished ideals of justice, liberty and freedom.
