The Front Page Tool Bar
Creating webpages using Front Page Express is easy since it
has a lot of features in common with Windows Word. Like Word, it
follows the "type first before you format" principle.
The only thing that you have to be familiar with would be the
Frontpage Toolbar which can look quite different from that of
Word. Below is a screenshot of the Standard and Format Toolbars
of Frontpage.

The Standard Toolbar

The Standard
Toolbar looks a lot like the one found in any
Windows application except for some icons that are specifically
intended for web page editors. From left to right, the toolbar
icons are:
- New file - It opens up a new file for editing.
- Open Folder - Used for retrieving stored files and
opening them in the editor.
- Save - Used for saving a newly created or newly edited
file.
- Print - Used for printing a file.
- Print Preview - Used for viewing a file before it is
printed.
- Cut - (Icon not activated). An editing command that
allows one to cut a text and temporarily save it in a
buffer for future pasting. (Note: The text or texts
to be cut must be highlighted first before the cut
command can be activated.)
- Copy - (Icon not activated) An editing command that
allows one to copy a line or a group of lines and save it
in a buffer for future pasting. (Note: The text or
texts to be cut must be highlighted first before the cut
command can be activated.)
- Paste - An editing command that allows one to paste a
text that has been saved in a buffer (from a previous Cut
or Copy command).
- Undo - An editing command that restores a change
previously made.
- Redo - An editing command that negates an UNDO command
previously made.
- Insert WEBBOT component - An editing command that inserts
a Frontpage script into a webpage. (Note: WEBBOT
components can only run in servers that are Frontpage
enabled.)
- Insert Table - An editing command that lets one insert a
table into a web page. It works quite differently from
that found in Word. More about Frontpage Tables >>
- Insert Graphic - An editing command that lets one insert
a picture into a web page.
- Create/Edit Hyperlink - Hyperlinks make it possible for
web pages to send surfers to other pages. This command
helps one create and edit them. More about Hyperlinks in
Frontpage>>
- Show/Hide Format Marks - Just what it says.
- Help - For needed information (And some others that you don't need but can be convenient to know).
The Format Tool Bar
This is the Toolbar you'll often be using for your web page.
From left to right, they are the following:
- Styles - Use this for the different text formats that
you'll need for your web page. More on HTML formatting
>>
- Fonts - Want to change the look of your fonts? Highlight
your text and choose the font you want for it. This is MS
Word stuff. The default font is Times New Roman.
- Increase Size - Increase the size of your fonts by
clicking on this icon. Default size is 12pt (size 3). By
clicking on the icon you will be increasing the default
font size to the next size (+3pt,
more or less).
- Decrease Size - Decrease the size
of your fonts by clicking the icon.
- Bold - Your text will look like this.
- Italic - In italic, it will look like this.
- Underline - An underlined text looks like this.
- Colors - If you want your texts to take on different
colors, just highlight the text and click on a color.
This is also MS Word stuff. More on HTML and
colors>>>.
- Aligning Texts - The following commands with their
corresponding icons work the same way in MS Word. Left
alignment is the default. You can also align images if
you wish.
- Left-Align
- Center-Align
- Right-Align
- Numbered List - This is for a numbered list. (Like the one preceding.)
- Bulleted List - The greater part of this web page has
been formatted as a bulleted list. So you now know which
icon I have been clicking a lot lately.
- Decrease Indent - This is used for decreasing the
indentations of your page.
- Increase Indent - This is used for increasing the
indentations of your page. (Useful in creating
blockquotes)
