Updates

IT'S MOVIE TIME!

Hello all! Look at this, two updates in a week! I hope I don't make this a habit, though I don't think I have to worry too much about that.

Anyhoo, it's the last few days of Christmas vacation, the mourning has started (and nightmares of a sadder time), though I think I need to take the time to influence a few stray minds. The topic? Movies. Why? Because I've spent almost all of this holiday watching them and have realized that there are some good films out there. Most are, well, bad, but if you pick them properly you can be thoroughly surprised.

Maybe I should correct my previous statement. I am speaking about a movie, not plural, because of time constraints. Too many virgin sacrifices just take up your day...

Movie: Bowling for Columbine

Director, etc: Michael Moore

Rating: Swell, though not in a light-hearted way

Political Motives: Strong but liberal, the best that there are

Reason to watch: I've seen it twice and each time has been just as good. That would be a lot more effective if I had seen it more than two times, but just take my word for it. As we approach our upcoming war (Bush sent in 50,000 more troops into Kuwait this morning to fight for freedom and peace, irony at its finest) one should be acquainted with the facts and evidence presented in this film. It takes an in-depth look at why Charleton Heston is an asshole, the reason(s) our nation is so prone to gun-violence, and past atrocities committed in the name of brotherhood, or oil in most cases. Anyway you view it, being associated with the knowledge and the research that went into the documentary is a plus, though it is a documentary. Those with a short attention span must be warned, but if you can make it through Lord of the Rings you'll be just fine. It isn't long, but most of my classmates would get bored so I'm just putting it out there.

If you like this, you should watch... C-SPAN! Am I the only other 16-year-old who thinks they have some good stuff in a weird, white man talkin' about current events kind of way? Actually, Michael Moore is funny enough so even if you don't like the politics or get bored with the message, you can always listen for jokes...
