What is the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"?

LoEG, for short, is an absolutely brilliant graphic novel series written by the illustrious Mr. Alan Moore and illustrated by the talented Mr. Kevin O'Neill. It is part of DC Comics' ABC/Wildstorm line and is currently in its second volume. So far, the comics have covered the exploits of the Victorian League, comprised of Mina Murray, Allan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and the Invisible Man.

Recently, 20th Century Fox released a film version of the graphic novel on July 11, 2003. The only things that are actually similar between the two are the concept and a number of characters.
