LAST CALL IS DONE!!!
After two years of blissful drunken anarchy, Last Call's reign of terror in the 4-states has finally ended. In the spring of 2001, it became apparent that bassist Isaiah Smith, who was a new father and now living in beautiful Oklahoma, was not going to be able to make practice any more.
The band went on hiatus and made an attempt at a reunion with Bastardwrench Brad Jones singing and frontman Jason Walsh moving to the bass, but after one practice that went well, nothing happened and thus the band was again...done.
Mark Williams moved on to Austin to continue his quest to become a rich and famous metal guitarist. The band wishes him the best of luck, especially at learning metal solos and leads...and hopefully he can keep out of jail.
Arik "Chubba" Gilbert graduated from college and works at Hastings...go visit him and ask for the Foghat boxed set. He played drums in a few more bands and is now playing guitar and doing some vocals. He is settled with his old lady in Joplin and will probably outlive the Midwest.
Jason Walsh played bass in a band called Center Up, with Chris Bivens of Distant P, Eric Hutchinson from an assortment of Florida metal bands, and Mike Harrup from Mark's old house. He also graduated college, moved to Pennsylvania, then to Norfolk, Virginia where he lives on the beach and works as a photojournalist for the local ABC station, WVEC.
Isaiah's whereabouts are unknown and legends and rumors speak of different fates.
The band would again like to thank everyone who ever came to the shows...long live Northtown and the bands that follow...

Last Call's last performance would be at the Joplin High School's 1st Annual Battle of the Bands...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
How's that for irony...and they didn't even place....hahahahahahahah
Most of the kids were gone by the time we came on at around 1 a.m.
Oh well, goodbye Joplin...

In a million years, even back when I was helping put together Yellobean shows there, did I ever expect to see a hardcore band play at Champs Pub & Grill. But sure enough, Last Call made history by being the first local hardcore band to play the outdoor pavillion.
Our bros in The Overdogs came down to play with us along with Distant P. It was a fun night, but even with radio advertisements all day long, the crowd was small and consisted of friends of the bands.
Still, we drank for free and got to tear Champs up...it will probably never happen again like that in that place.
Nice to break traditions sometimes...

Last Call was set to play the Green Room with Backseat Girls and Idiot Savant at the Green Room.
The owners had been having problems pulling the all-ages shows because of local law enforcement, so they weren't allowed to let in minors, except for a few who were on the guest lists of each band.
When Backseat Boz couldn't get every single minor he knew in, he threw a big fit and said they weren't going to play.
They later went to Schifferdecker Park and played a free show.
I understand his reasoning on this one, but it was still fucking lame and he left us one band short...so from the bottom of our hearts, thanks Boz and fuck you very much.
We called Distant P last minute and they were at the show and playing in less than an hour. So a big thank you to Distant P for saving the day.
Idiot Savant played one of their first shows and were fucking great. Really a great band which is probably why they broke up because all the good bands in this town break up and all the shitty ones last forever.
Anyway a great show and the last for Last Call at the Green Room. Thanks to Aaron for all the shows he gave us, and to any bands interested in playing there, call the Green Room at (417) 781-3372. Ask for Aaron...he'll hook you up.

Much has happened in the short time since I last updated. That scandalous bitch once again shit upon the local music scene, namely against us and the Backseat Girls. The mistress of propaganda made sure that Last Call and our brother band, Backseat Girls, would not be allowed to participate in Missouri Southern's talent show.
But we were invited to play the Joplin High School Battle of the Bands for an opportunity to win all new gear from Big Don's Music City. I hope everyone out there gets a chance to come check out 12 of Joplin's newest bands.
We are working on 2 new cd's. We are mixing down a live CD from the Green Room and a studio CD we are working on with Roger Hannafin, Mike Jilge, and Larry Deardorf.
Upcoming shows include May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) at the Green Room, May 10 at Champs Pub and Grill, and finally the Battle at Joplin High School on Froday, May 11.

It has been yet another eventful February for the fellas in Last Call. Jason saw himself landing in Joplin City Jail while others had more serious issues to deal with...
No matter. The show at the Keystone in January was great and the fiasco at The Edge was another learning experience of how not to run a club, but their set was good, as was those by Distant P, 20 Trenched, and Aleatoric.
The boys have been recording their second upcoming CD with "Reality Impaired" Roger and Larry Deardorff. So far the results have been promising and all are excited about its completion and subsequent release. Look for it at a pawn shop near you.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Last Call's first performance at the Green Room with 20 Trenched had a great turnout. All tribes of maniacs were able to lose their minds to the driving sounds of 20 Trenched from Pittsburg, KS and the thunderings of Last Call. Last Call should be playing the Green Room again some time in February.
Much thanks to Aaron for the show.
The December 21st show at the Keystone was a fun occassion for one and all...and it went down without incident.
It went over well enough that we're going to be back on Jan. 25th for an encore performance. Northtown Hardcore in confined, near-claustorphobic conditions. Come out and enjoy, if you can.
Mad Props to Adam Headlee, Chuck, and Ronny for the support.
...WITH THIS BAND COMES THE MADNESS.
The Oct. 7 show went over great. Another classic Northtown throwdown in the basement of the 1st and Jackson house. Starting with Cockroach Presley after Dan's travels abroad in Ireland and followed by 20 Trenched from Carthage. The Backseat Girls threw down whatwould be their last Joplin show for quite a while, required jailtime commitments and all...Then Last Call threw out their old-school metal influenced barage of drunken Northtown beercore. People enjoyed, people had fun, the party moved to the Last Call house and someone bagged a 20-year-old lesbian stripper.
Speaking of lesbian strippers, the show at McClelland Park following Jason's return from NYC did not go over as well as expected. Yellobean played late after mandolin player Dallas Evans arrived a bit late to the park. They played an expectedly brilliant duel of bluegrass influenced music that saw many-a-punk-rocker cheering.
The extremities of Pushfactor was next to grace the gazebo at McClelland Park. They played a good set of originals that spanned durations far longer than their punk peers.
Next, the noise brigade known as Dementia Precox came out and assaulted the eardrums of unwitting attendants. Armed with blaring guitar cabinets and a percussionary bathtub, they enlightened the Joplinites with an aural attack.
Now, this is where it all seemed to fall apart. The guys in Last Call told Dementia Precox to keep going while they left. That didn't happen and it wasn't until 45 minutes later that the Beercore army arrived with limo, complimentary Crown Royal, and two devious strippers. No one got it. Oh well, eighty bucks later it was still funny to the band. Then Mark dumped his fullstack and nearly ended the show. Reality Impaired's Roger was upon the amp like MacGyver on a time bomb. Minutes later, the show would begin and the band would play their set to a lethargic crowd. Yet, a small group of five that regularly don't attend such shows got their swerve on and took control. All in all, not a bad show, but it could have been better...you lazy bastards...
The Camorra would be the highlight of the show, not for their given talents, but the side show that would take place at the rear of the pavillion. Apparently, the Last Call strippers had too much complimentary Crown and proceded in attacking each other in a most overtly sexual manner. Put to the soundtrack of The Camorra, the performance was a new low for Joplin shows...howvere the video footage was quite impressive. Email for copies...
That's all for now. No shows lined up, but we'll post 'em when we book 'em. Trying to write some new shit and find a good venue. See ya soon.
WE'RE BACK!!!

LIVE OCT. 7 Then, Adam left to pursue his career in folk music and "Madman" Mark Williams is back in the band with his Dimebag guitar. It's been good to have Mark back.
We're keeping it going. I was going to move to North Carolina in December but things changed, I am staying, and I am once again a single man. So all you ladies come out to the show.

UPDATE:
SEE THE SHOW THIS SATURDAY.
LAST CALL,BASTARDWRENCH,BACKSEAT GIRLS,THE FUGUE, 7 BANDS...NO COVER
This show went over well. I don't what happened when we finally played but we all went to shit. It was the worst set the band has ever played, but we had a good time. Bastradwrench didn't play because John pissed in the driver side window of the owner's trans am and almost got lynched out there in the middle of nowhere.
Mad props to myself for getting his ass out of there alive.
All the other bands played really good and much respect to the Fugue, Trixie, and The Camorra for driving down to play in the middle of the woods.
7.12.00
It's good to be back playing with our friends again. We had a 'welcome back' show at our house. The turnout was fair, but most everyone sat on the porch drinking rather than coming inside to watch.
Brad and Dustin, our vatocore brothers, were in full force on the Bastardwrench mic, and some of our friends endured the less-than-perfect conditions of our living room, but all in all, it was a good night, and we thank everyone who attended our 'practice' that night.
On Saturday, July 8th, we played with our bros, Cockroach Presley and Backseat Girls, at the Bastardwrench House. Conditions were excruciatingly hot, which nearly killed Brad Jones and myself, but it was a good show, and everyone lost their minds in typical beercore-vatocore style. Bastardwrench did not play as it got late and over a hundred people had invaded the 1st and Jackson block.
I don't think there will be a repeat performance because the party did get out of hand, but it was a good time in the old meth capital that night.
A neighbor did report someone pissed on their car, smoked weed in their front yard, and then kicked their cat.
Bad, bad punk-rockers...
Be sure to come to the show on July 22nd.
WE DID NOT BREAK UP !!
5.27.00
Contrary to popular belief, Last Call is still together. Mark is no longer in the band. We decided to continue along the path we wanted when we started the band. Mark was more interested in metal than hardcore and will be starting up a new band sometime in the future. We left on good terms and we wish Mark all the luck in the future.
Adam Giebler a.k.a. The Barfly has joined the band. He brings a completely different style of guitar playing which will help to create a more diverse sound than we've had to date. We have 2 new songs down with Adam, "A New Day" and "The Dope Man" along with some other jams we're putting together. We'll also be playing a Dropkick Murphys song at our next show (which we don't have scheduled yet...)
Hope to see you soon....

It has been a busy week for us. We had our show in Neosho on Tuesday, Dec. 28. The so-called, "professional" sound guy had us play the first half of our set through a blown P.A. that only worked on one side.
The vocals sounded like crap. Then it went completely dead.
About thirty minutes later, they got a second P.A. set up, we got four songs into it and it went dead, too. That was enough. Amazingly enough, Lucid and Hangmen's Tree didn't have any issues during their sets.Hmmm....Y2K?!? I think not...
Thanks to the guys from Lucid for having us out that night. We still had a good time.
Last night (1.1.00) was our best show to date. We played with the Backseat Girls, Powerstall, Lucid, and the Midwest Playas. We had a great set and the crowd got into it. We did an old Squirm song, "Deadpeace" with Adam and Shane from the deceased Squirm band of the early 90's. Adam, who was drunk the last time we did it, nailed it. Then we did the classic Iron Cross song "Crucified", also with Shane and Adam, and ended with "Last Call" which saw Shane, Adam, and J.D. from Powerstall singing along on the choruses. The crowd also joined in and basically mayhem ensued in the skatepark. A good, good night....sorta
Here's where I rant. First some piece of shit stole my son's skateboard at the show. Then, later that night someone emptied my wallet of about $200. Pretty fucking lame. Trying to bring unity back to this place and these pieces of shit take advantage of our good nature. If I find the kid who snaked my board, I'm going to beat his ass. If I find the fucker who stole money out of my home, I'm going to put him in a fucking hole !!!!!
I hope the culprits read this and I hope I find you, whoever the fuck you are...
Last night's show also saw a first for Joplin. We had our first show with a rap outfit. Sugafoot and the Midwest Playas provided Joplin with its first-ever look at hip hop live and those guys tore it up. Special thanks to Boogie, Big Perm, and Echo for helping to bring unity and hip-hop into our dismal scene.
All in all, the show was a success. Every band was diverse and I think everyone who came had a good time. Special thanks to Scott at BTB Skatepark for letting us use his space and Roger and Jeanene for running the sound. And to the bands and people who came, thanks for making it a memorable first day of the twenty first century.
We can't wait to do it again.
Don't forget about our show with Powerstall at the Keystone Lounge on Saturday, Jan. 8th.
Keep the scene united and don't ripoff your brothers...

First and foremost of importance to mention is that we added a new guitarist to help save the band. Tom "Warrior" Watkins from Psychobabble has stepped up and agreed to play with us. Thanks for coming, Tom.
We played our first show at Matt Walker's garage in Carl Junction, MO on Saturday, Dec. 18th (my son, Christian's birthday), with The Backseat Girls, Bastardwrench, Powerstall, and VD. We fucked up a little like any band on their first night, but all in all I think we did really well and we went over pretty good with the audience. There was as many people watching when we began as there were when we ended so that's a pretty good sign. We had a pit break out on our first song, which around here is a big deal. There are bands that have played and never had anybody moving the floor. It's the sad state of this place, so to those guys who went off that night, we say much love and respect and we hope you're there at the next show.
We also had fellas jump in on sing-a-longs for two of our songs, and again, I want to thank those guys...Cory, Shane, Dan and that guy from the Backseat Girls whose name escapes me at the moment.
For only being together for a month, we have a lot on our plate. It's like we're on a mini-midwest tour or something. Here's the list including the first gig.
Dec. 18, 1999 : Matt Walker's House
Dec. 28, 1999 : Neosho Municipal Auditorium
Jan 1, 2000 : BTB Skatepark
Jan. 8, 2000: Keystone Lounge
Not bad, for a bunch of guys who just started playing a month earlier.
After we get all these shows knocked, we're going to work on getting a tighter set, more songs, and try to do some recording. We have a demo right now, and a recording from our first show, but they are both pretty bad.
However, the guys putting the Neosho extravaganza are going to record each band's set on minidisc through the mixing board, which I thought was pretty cool... Details to follow about that....
Another thing of interesting note about that show in Neosho is the possible presence of Dr. Mack Evans.
Apparently, he has something up his ass about this show and is rumored to be putting a wall of Christian's in front of the door to prevent the sinners from entering. I do believe a ball of carnage will roll through protestors should they step in front of us.

What do you get when you take an old schooler, a ska drummer, an orchestral bassist, and a metal kid ?
Well, that's what we're trying to figure out. We started jamming in October of 1999 and we're going to see where this takes us.
Right now we have four original songs down...sorta...
They are TURNCOAT, DYING, SOMEDAY and LAST CALL, our triumphant anthem...
More will be posted as the band progresses onward. We're still in the creation mode, but will be playing a show near you soon...
What do you mean there is more than one last call?
Other bands we've found with the same name. But we're doing the old school crossover thing, and are a far different sound than
these other bands.
Another funny story about our name is that there was a band from Neosho called Last Call.
They were a Christian band who were on the flyer for the Dec. 28th Neosho show. We saw the flyer and called the guys from the band Lucid who were putting it on, unaware that there was another band called Last Call.
They told us there was another band, but they had changed the name. I thought, cool, at least we can keep the band's name. Then the guy told me they were a bunch of young kids from Neosho and the bassplayer was grounded and couldn't play the gig. So the guy came and checked our show at Matt's Garage and gave us the spot. Much love to the guys from Lucid who are doing the show.
But we are, and always will be ....

It didn't work when I checked. Apparently Dr. Mack isn't as proficient with HTML as he is with protesting.
Kind of a self-righteous URL Web Address too, don't you think?
It would be funny if we played with one of these bands sometime.
