Joe's Apartment

*~* Chapter 4: Twist of Fate *~*
AJ had been reading the book he'd found in is pocket the other day. But none
of the things he tried worked. He desperately wanted to be with Josephine.
And now that he knew she felt the same way, he wanted her even more. But he knew
it was impossible. The number one rule of immortality is that someone who is
immortal cannot fall in love with a mortal. AJ had already broken that rule, and
frankly he didn't care. He just hoped the Heavenly Council would take pity
on him and let him be with Josephine in one way or another.
The Heavenly Council, is a group
of Angels that run the dimensions of immortality. They have been watching all
that has been happening between AJ and Josephine and they are not very happy
about it. At the rate AJ was going, he would never get into heaven and be a
wandering ghost forever. But they noticed that AJ's love wasn't unrequited and
they were willing to help him.
"So you are gonna help me?" AJ asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, but under one condition." The Head Angel said. "You have to
prove to Josephine that Sean is not the one for her, and that you are. That is
the only way we can help you."
"I'll try!" AJ replied. He knew that would be a very hard task.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Josephine lay in her bed staring at the ceiling. Just like she always did when
she thought about AJ. 'This is crazy, how can I be in love with him. He's a
fifty-year-old ghost. And even if he was alive, he'd be seventy -three, and I'd
still be twenty - two, and that's just nasty. But I can't help loving him.'
She heard a little movement coming from the living room.
"AJ is that you?" she called getting out of bed.
She walked into the living room and flipped on the light to see Sean staggering
around. He was obviously drunk.
"Sean, baby what are you doing here?"
"I came to see you baby." He replied grabbing on to her shoulders to
prevent himself from falling. "Where's you're little friend?"
"I don't know."
"Awh, you're ghost-boy isn't here to protect you?" Sean replied in a
mocking squeaky voice.
"Um Sean, you really need to get some rest. Come, let me call you a
cab." Josephine said.
"No! I want to stay here!"
Sean pressed her up against the wall and kissed her. She pushed him away and he
crumbled to the ground. AJ had just came back from the Heavenly Council and
heard a loud thump. When he walked into the living room, he saw Sean get
up and slap Josephine sending her flying half way across the room.
"What the hell is you're problem man." AJ said walking up to Sean and
trying to punch him in the gut, Of course, his arm went right through Sean.
"Ha, ha you can't get me Casper! Wanna try again."
At this point, AJ was totally outraged. Josephine saw this look in his eye and
she had a feeling that she knew what he was about to do. Suddenly thunder
crackled in the sky.
"AJ no!" Josephine cried. But her words rolled off AJ like water on a
hen's back.
AJ made Sean levitate and slammed him against the wall. You'd think that
would knock him out cold, but Sean was too stubborn for that. He couldn't do
anything to AJ to physically hurt him, so he simply spat out verbal assaults at
him.
"So Casper, you want my girl right, well you can't have her. See you
have to actually be alive, to get her. But you know if you want her that bad, I
could kill her now and you two will be together forever."
"If you touch her, I swear I'll..."
"You'll what?" Sean said grabbing Josephine by the neck and clutching
on
tight.
Now AJ had a full-blown storm going on outside, he didn't know what to do. He
felt completely helpless as he watched Josephine gasp for air. And then he got
the perfect idea. He pointed a finger at Sean, and he disappeared. Josephine hit
the floor desperately trying to catch her breath.
"Joe, are you ok?"
"Yeah I think I'll be fine." She replied
*~*~*~*~*
AJ totally forgot about the storm that he'd made, which was now a hurricane. The
wind was beating against the old apartment building, and the rain wasn't making
things any better either. AJ tried to calm it down, but now it was out of his
control. The windows were open and apartment was beginning to flood, which no
one had noticed until then. AJ and Josephine desperately tried to close the
windows but the winds were too strong. Josephine, still weak from the lack
of oxygen managed to get a few windows closed. AJ did the rest. After all the
windows were closed, Josephine passed out and dropped to the floor from
exhaustion. AJ tried to catch her, but of course, she went right though his
arms. AJ levitated her into the bedroom, and placed her on the bed. Her clothes
were soaked with rainwater, and her hair was all tangled. She looked completely
lifeless. He heard a faint whisper and turned around to see Josephine. He turned
back around to see her body sprawled on bed. Then he realized what had happened.
"Joey, are you? He asked in terror. Sure he wanted to be with her, but he
never wanted to kill her. Or have her die before she would be his.
"Dead?" Josephine finished for him. "No, I'm just unconscious.
I'll be fine, but I need you to come with me."
AJ got up and followed her.
*~*~*~*~*
AJ and Josephine stood in front of the Heavenly Council as they ruled out
their fate. AJ was so nervous, he wouldn't blame them if they sent him to the
six hundred sixty sixth dimension, which is hell.
"Well Alexander, Josephine, we have ruled you're fate." The Head Angel
began. "AJ as you know, you had a certain task to do."
"I know." AJ replied with his head hung low. "I failed."
"Actually you, didn't. Josephine realized Sean wasn't the one for her just
a minute before it was too late. When he threatened to kill her. Now AJ, you
have been there for her even though you very well know that it is against the
rules for an immortal to fall love with a mortal. But we see that you couldn't
help yourself and besides those two hurricane incidents, you have been good."
"So what does that mean? Can we be together?" AJ asked
anxiously.
