Joe's Apartment

*~* Chapter 2: Getting to know you *~*

"Wow, I don't believe you were a member of the Backstreet Boys.  My mom
used to talk about you all the time." Josephine said.

She went to her CD holder and pulled out a few CD's filled under "B".

"My mom gave me this CD.  I love your music."
"I aim to please.  Well, aimed." AJ laughed.
"Do you mind if I ask you a question?" Josephine asked.
"Go ahead."  AJ said.
"How'd you die?"
AJ lowered his head.  "My mother killed me."
"What! Why?" Josephine asked in shock
"Well, in her words she was trying to protect me. From my girlfriend Adeana. We we're going to get married, and my mom didn't like her at all. She thought Adeana was only with me for my money. Which turned out to be right cause she didn't even mourn for me or anything. She didn't even go to my memorial."
"Memorial? You didn't have a funeral?"
"No, the cops never found my body?"
"How come? Where is it?"
"In this apartment."

Josephine's eyes popped out of her head.

"Where in the apartment?"
"In that wall you want knocked down.  If you knock it down, I'll have no place to stay. But hey, it's you're apartment now, you do what you want." AJ replied sadly.  "Well we've been talking about me for almost two hours. Tell me something about yourself."
"Well, my name is Josephine McNalphen, my friends call me Joey, or Joe.   I'm twenty two, and I'm a senior at Florida State University."
"What's your major?"
"Physiology."
"Oh, so you're gonna be a shrink!" AJ laughed.
"A Physiologist." Josephine corrected him.
"A shrink! That's what I said." AJ joked.
"So what's it like being a ghost?" Josephine asked.
"It's real cool.  Besides the fact that I'm dead, I'm immortal. I can do practically anything."
"Really, like what?"
"Remember Hurricane Anne? I did that." AJ said with a half smile.
"No way! Why'd you do it? That hurricane wiped out like half of Florida!"
"Well, I was angry.  A girl about you're age had just moved here and when I tried to make contact with her, she bought one of the sprays that's supposed
to get rid of evil spirits. Meaning that I'm not evil, it didn't send me away, but it made me really sick and I just flipped out."

Josephine busted out in laugher.  AJ knew it was kinda funny but he didn't laugh. He just watched her for a while. She was very beautiful, she had a whole bunch of brunette curls, which fell on her shoulders and bounced when she walked, and honey colored eyes that changed to green sometimes. She
had light smooth light brown skin and two of the deepest dimples AJ had ever
seen.

"You are really pretty." AJ said mindlessly.  'Damn did I say that out loud.'  He thought.
"Thank you." Josephine replied.

She could feel her cheeks begin to blush.  She looked around for something to say or do that would lessen the awkwardness.

"Awh damn! It's almost sunrise." Josephine said getting up.  "I really need to get some sleep.  I have a class tomorrow, today at 11am."

Josephine turned off the light and got into bed.

"Good night."
"Yeah, Good night." Josephine replied.

Josephine couldn't get to sleep.  Besides the sight of the new morning light
streaming into her window, she couldn't help but cringe to the thought of a
fifty year old corpse in that the wall. But she did manage to get some sleep before she had to go to class.

*~*~*~*~*

When she woke up, all she had on her mind was getting to school. She was
always prone to being late. She was going to take a quick shower. She lifted her shirt up over her head.

"Whoa hold on, you know I can see you!" AJ laughed.

Josephine turned around and AJ appeared.

"You little pervert!" Josephine snapped with a smile.  "And you wonder why no one wants to live here."
"Hey, I'm a guy and you're a pretty girl.  It's nature."
"Well I have no time for a biology lesson.  I have to go take a shower.  And
no following me. My mother always told me you we're a freak in your day.
"You can't always believe the hype." AJ said smiling.

Josephine smiled back at him and walked into the bathroom.

AJ levitated and hit the ceiling.  'Damn, you'd think being a ghost that won't happen.' he though rubbing his head.

"Excuse me AJ.  I need to dress."
"Ok." AJ replied walking though the wall.
"You're not in the wall are you?" Josephine asked.
"No." AJ laughed.  "I'm the next room."

Josephine knew this would be really weird and would take a lot of getting used to.  But she was willing to try.  AJ seemed like a really nice guy. Well, a really nice ghost!

"Casper! Where are you?" Josephine called.
"Don't call me Casper, I hate that!" AJ replied coming back through the walls. "Ok, sorry.  My mom used to tell me that you we're a fashion freak back in the day.  So which one do you like, the red or the blue?"
"The blue."
"AJ I'm gone, I'll see you later." Josephine said as she left the apartment.
"Bye." AJ replied.

*~*~*~*~*

Josephine walked into her class almost a half an hour late. The Professor wasn't very happy.

"Ms. McNalphen you're late!" Professor Henderson said.
"I know, I'm very sorry."

Josephine got out her tape recorder to record the Professor's lecture. Then she got out her notebook and began scribbling down the few notes that were not the board. She was very happy when the class was over. In the cab on her way home, Josephine's cellular phone rang. It was Natalie.

"Hey Joey, I just called to say bye."
"Awh Nat, you and Keri have to leave so soon."
"Yeah, the new semester starts on Monday."
"I'm gonna miss you so much."
"I'm gonna miss you too." Natalie replied.  "New York just isn't gonna be the same without you."

*~*~*~*~*

Josephine walked into the apartment and let herself fall into the couch. She was so tired from hearing Professor Henderson lecture for an hour and a
half. When she finally got the strength to get up, she went into her bedroom
to change. Once again she was about to take off her shirt when AJ appeared. He was laying on her bed with the TV remote in his hand.

"Why do you always insist on stripping in front of me?" AJ snickered.
"Why are you always in here when I'm trying to change?" Josephine replied with a smile. Josephine turned her back to AJ and put on an oversized tee shirt that draped over her legs.

"So how was you're class?" AJ asked changing the channel.
"Utterly boring!" Josephine commented as she slipped on a pair of tights and
sat on the bed. "What are you doing?"
"Watching TV."
"Um AJ the TV is not on."
"Yes, it is.  I'm watching TV in the fourth dimension." AJ laughed.
"But there are only three dimensions.  Height, width and depth."

AJ laughed.  "There are millions of dimensions.  But mortals are only aware
for three. You have to be a paranormal for some kind to know the rest."
"Well, can you please turn on the TV in this dimension so I could watch it too." Josephine said.

AJ turned on the TV to MTV and they watch music videos for a while.

"So tell me some more about the dimensions and stuff." Josephine said.
"Well, there is a dimension for almost anything. Sight, hearing, all the senses. There are dimensions for emotions too. The 26th dimension is the dimension for anger, the 33rd is the dimension of happiness. The 14th is the dimension of love."

AJ looked up at Josephine who was staring intensely at him too. There was
silence for a few minutes. The phone rang and Josephine jumped.  She went
into the living room to answer it.  That seemed strange to AJ because there
was a phone right next to the bed where she was sitting.

"Hi Ker, you guys are in New York already?" Josephine asked, happy to break away from that awkward moment.
"Yeah, we just landed a few minutes ago.  Natalie is getting our luggage."
"Well you guys are gonna be there for a while."
"I gotta call you back once we get to campus, bye"
"Bye."

Josephine decided set up her computer after that.  She had it for a while now and hadn't even taken it out of the box. She went into the closet where she kept it and tried to get it out.

"You need some help?"
"I need a lot of help!" Josephine commented as she stepped out of the closet.

When Josephine stepped aside, AJ stood in front of the closet and just squinted at the box.

"What are you doing?" Josephine asked sounding annoyed.
"Shhh!" AJ replied.

AJ stared at the box for a while.  It began to move a little.  He raised his hands up and the box raised up.  He moved his hands in and the box floated forward. He moved his hands down and the box hit the floor.

"How'd you do that?" Josephine asked in amazement.
"Telekinetic Force." AJ replied as her moved the box next to the computer
table. "It's all apart of being immortal."
"Man, you make this being dead stuff seem so cool." Josephine commented.
"We'll it's ok, but it really isn't all it's cracked up to be." AJ replied opening the box and putting the monitor on the table.
"What do you mean?" Josephine asked as she put the CPU on the table.
"Nothing." AJ mumbled as he slowly disappeared.
