Joe's Apartment

*~* Chapter 1: Moving Day *~*

"Ok that's the last of it." Josephine said letting herself fall onto her
unmade bed.
"Hallelujah! I don't know how we fit all you're stuff into this tiny
little apartment." Keri added.  
"Hey, hey, hey! Stop dissin' my apartment.  I know it's small but it's
all I can afford right now."
"Oh this is an apartment?  I thought it was my closet!" Natalie joked.

All three girls laughed.  Josephine threw a pillow at her.  

"It's a nice little apartment, but I'm surprised the land lord let it go
so cheap." Keri said.
"I don't really care, I just need a place to rest my head for a while.  
Until I graduate and get a good job."
"I think this place will look a lot better once you fix it up a little."
Natalie commented
"Yeah, Brad said he'd help me out with that.  Him and his friends are
gonna do some repairs and stuff.  I think the place will look a lot better
once I have them knock that wall out."

Josephine pointed the wall that separated the apartment's two bedrooms.  

"That way I'll have a super huge bedroom."
"Hey why don't we go out to eat." Keri suggested.  "We can celebrated
you're new apartment."
"Great idea!" Josephine replied.  "And you know you both owe me house
warming presents."
"Don't worry you'll get them soon." Natalie giggled

Josephine, Natalie, and Keri left the apartment.  As soon as the
door closed.  The face of a man imprinted out of the wall that separated the
two bedrooms.

"I think it's time for a toast!" Keri giggled as she stood up and raised
her glass.  "Here's to Joe's new apartment, and all the wild parties we'll
have trying to wreck it!"
" Yeah, here's to your apartment, as small as it may be!"
"Here, here!" Josephine laughed.  
"Well, I say we head back to you're apartment and continue this party
with all the junk food we can eat!" Natalie said.  
"I say you're so right!" Josephine replied getting out her wallet to pay
the bill.
"Joe, put that wallet away!" Keri demanded.  "Nat is gonna pay the bill!"
"Oh, real nice!" Natalie scoffed as she put down some money.  
"Fine, I'll pay the tip."  Keri laughed.

"Urgh! I'm stuffed!" Josephine said rolling on her back.  
"I guess we over did it with the junk food." Natalie added
"Are you guy's staying over the night?"
"Hey, we might as well, it's way too late, almost 2am." Keri said

Josephine went into her bedroom and got some blankets and pillows.  When
she left the room, the face appeared once again.  

"Ok guys, here are some pillows and stuff.  I say we camp out in the
living room for tonight."
"Oh wonderful hospitality!" Natalie joked sarcastically.
"Well gee, I'm sorry this isn't the Ritz Carlton, but I just moved here
like seven hours ago!" Josephine joked back.
"Ok people, I say we get some sleep.  We gotta help you start to fix this
place up tomorrow." Keri said.  
"Good night guys." Josephine said.
"Yeah Good night." Natalie said
"Good night." Keri said

It was about 4:30am, and everyone was asleep.  There was no sign of movement anywhere.  Again, the face imprinted in the wall.  Then appeared a man.  He was about 5'10", skinny, and handsome, with defined features accented by a goatee.  He walked into the living room where Josephine and her friends were sleeping.  He smiled and watched them for a while.  'It's nice to have some new people in this rusty old apartment.' He thought.  By morning, he was gone.

"Raise and shine ladies!" Brad said pulling the covers off of them.  
"Brad! What's your problem! You're not suppose to be here until noon!"
Josephine snapped.
"It's 1:30!" Brad replied.  "Get you're asses up!  It's work time!  Everyone
is here."

Josephine felt naked at the sight of all her brother's friends staring at her
bare legs.  'At least Nat and Ker had the sense to keep their pants on!'
Josephine thought.  She got up and slipped on her jeans quickly.  

"Ok people, let's get to work!"
"Chris, Dave why don't you guys just look around for little things that need
fixing.  Me and Charlie will do the plumbing and stuff."
"Ok." David replied grabbing his toolbox and a flashlight.  

Him and Chris disappeared into the bedrooms.  

"Ok ladies, you all have to go do what you do best." Brad said
"And what would that be?" Josephine snapped.
"Shop! Duh!" Brad laughed.  "You basically just have to get all the stuff you
need to make this place look pretty so we can put it up.  We want to get the
whole place done today."
"Well let's go then." Josephine said grabbing her purse.  "You guys better
not mess up my place while we're gone."

"Wow, look at this wallpaper!" Josephine said holding up a light blue
floral print.  "This would go great with the bed set I bought."
"That is cute, but look at this one!" Natalie replied holding up pink-stripped print.
"Urgh! Nat that won't go good with anything!" Keri exclaimed.  "I say you stick with the one you have."
"Ok guys, help me get this into the cart.  I'm not sure how much they'll need so I'll just buy them all.  I can always return the ones they don't need."
"Where to next?" Natalie asked.
"I think we have enough for today.  Let's head back."

"Ok guys were back!" Josephine said as she and her friends walked through
the door."
" It's about time!" Brad said.  "What did you get?"
"Oh just some wall paper and light fixtures and stuff.  Nothing fancy."  
"Well you're gonna have to tell us where you want everything." Charlie
said.
"Well Duh! I know that!" Josephine snapped.  The blue wall paper is for
the bedroom, the pink wallpaper is for the kitchen and the paint is for
everywhere else.  Oh yeah, and could you guys knock out that wall that
separates the bedrooms."
"Man Joey, you're asking for a allot of work,  I thought we'd be finished
today but it doesn't look so." Brad complained.
"Awh shut up you wuss! Just do what you can then."

Everyone walked out of Josephine's bedroom.  The man appeared one more
time.  He looked around bedroom.  ' Hum, they did a pretty good job.  I could
get used to this.' He thought as he walked around,  He went into the living room where everyone was and stood between a girl that they all where
calling Joey and a guy that they all where calling Brad.  He snickered to
himself knowing that they couldn't see him.  Then he walked over to the girl
that they all called Natalie.  He stood in front of her and made funny faces. She shook her head at Joey's apartment and walked to the other end of the
room.  The guy played around for a while until be began to get bored.  Then
he went back into the bedroom and disappeared into the wall.  

"Well it's late, so we'll go." Brad said.  "We'll come back another day and take down that wall."
"Ok Thanks so much Brad." Josephine replied hugging her brother.  "Bye
guys."
"Bye." Everyone said as they filled out of the apartment.

Josephine looked around in amazement at how they'd fixed up the apartment to perfection in just a few hours.  'We'll it's not totally perfect yet. But it will be once that wall is gone.' She thought. Josephine was on the bed stomach down reading a book.  'Man I'm thirsty!' she thought getting up. She went into the kitchen and got a glass of water.  All the kitchen cabinets were open. 'That's weird.' She thought as she closed them. One by one, they all opened again.  By themselves.  Josephine began to get a little scared.  She closed them again and they opened again. "Who's there?"  she demanded.  

She heard a little snicker in the distance. She turned around saw nothing.  
' I'm gonna kill Brad!  Him and his dumb friends probably booby trapped the
place when I was gone.' She thought.  She went back I not her room and sat on her bed.  She got the remote and flipped on the TV.  It turned off, by itself. She turned it on again and it turned itself off once more. Getting frustrated, she turned off the light and decided to go to sleep.  As soon as her head hit the pillow the lights flew on again. Josephine got out of her bed, totally pissed.  

"What the hell is going on!  Whoever or whatever is doing this please stop. Leave me alone!" Josephine cried.
"I'm sorry." Someone said
Josephine turned around.
"Who said that?"
"I did."  The man appeared.  "I was just trying to get you're attention.
"Who are you? How'd you do that?" Josephine demanded.
"What? Oh you mean appear out of thin air like that?  We'll I'm a..."
"Ghost?" Josephine finished for him.
"Yeah." He replied
"That's impossible!  Ghosts aren't real!"
"We'll how do you explain my being here, all transparent and everything?"
"I don't know."
"Well you don't believe me, I can prove it.  Try to touch me."

Josephine reached out and put her hand on his shoulder.  Her hand went right
through him.  When she took it back, her hand was covered with a clear goo.  
She cringed at the mess on her hand.  
"What's that?" Josephine asked with disgust
"Endoplasmic residue." The guy laughed at her statement.
"Why are you here?  Why aren't you on the other side or something?"
"I don't want to go.  I like staying right here, just like I have for the
past fifty years."  
"Fifty years?  That means you died in the year 2001?"
"That's right."

Josephine sat on he bed, he face flushed with confusion.  She didn't know
what to say or do.  'No wonder I got his place so cheap.'
