Sweet Kisses: Chapter 4

"Hey, Lizzy." I walked back to the same coffee table the next day at rehearsal. All of the same girls gave me dirty stares and walked off. I watched them leave, then turned to look at Lizzy. She was leaning against the table, staring straight ahead, ignoring my greeting. "Doing okay?"
"Lay off the nice act, Nick. It's pissing me off. Besides, I really don't wanna talk to you right now."
"I'm not acting! And…would you ever want to talk to me?"
"Maybe. But just leave me alone right now. I need to think."
"About what?" I leaned against the table next to her. "Maybe I can help."
"It's about you. And believe me, you can't help. Unless you go away." She looked at me, her blue eyes emotionless. I shrugged and left the table.
"Still not giving you the time of day?" Brian asked me. I shook my head. "Oh well. Just keep focused on the rehearsal man. Keep focused."
It was an hour later before I saw her again. We had been dancing non-stop for an hour and all of us were pooped. We hadn't even had a water break. When Fatima, our choreographer, finally said we could take a break, we all flopped into our chairs, too exhausted to even think. I had my eyes closed when I felt something cold at my hand. I looked towards it.
"Mmm, yeah." I grabbed for the water, then thought better of it. I looked up at who was delivering the water. It was Lizzy. "Thanks." I couldn't say anymore. She just gave a half smile, placed the water in my hand, and flung a towel at me.
I groaned. It seemed like I could never do anything right with her! The one day I acknowledge when she hands me water and a towel, she gets mad. When I don't, she gets mad. What the hell does she want?
"Okay, fellas! Up, up! Come on! You have to get the new dance down!" Fatima shouted at us from the stage. We all reluctantly got out of our chairs and dragged back up the stairs. We got into position and, when the music started, danced like shit.
"Stop, stop!" Fatima waved her arms around until the music stopped. "You looked like crap! I know you're tired so I'll make you a deal. If you get this dance down perfectly this first time, I'll end rehearsal early. If not, we'll go till regular time. Deal?" We nodded.
When the music started, I gave it all I had. I made sure to make my dance moves perfect. I looked up out into the empty stadium and pretended that there was a crowd there. My eyes roamed the "crowd", then rested on a set of bright blue eyes. Lizzy. I smiled at her and never dropped my gaze during the whole song. She matched my gaze, except hers was a stare, a hint of anger there, but at least she didn't turn away.
"Excellent!" Fatima said when the song had ended. "Now you guys can leave early. See you all tomorrow!" Everyone, including the dancers, shouted for joy and clapped each other on the back. When I had gotten down from the stage, I searched the room for those staring eyes. They were nowhere to be found.
