If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 9
Brian
“Oh, please no!” I dropped to my
knees and let out a sob. I don’t like crying. But
there was nothing to stop me. What
are you supposed to do when you see your best friend’s body hanging from the
rafters in your dressing room.
I sat like that for a while until I felt a hand on my
shoulder.
“Come on, Bri.” It was Kevin.
“Why?!” I shouted at him, suddenly mad at everything and
everyone.
“He didn’t hang himself.” Kevin was crying too.
His voice was whiny and was cracking with suppressed sobs.
“He didn’t commit suicide.”
“What do you mean?!” I stood up and pointed at my friend’s
dead body. “He’s got a rope
around his neck! He’s hanging
from the rafters. And you’re
trying to tell me that he didn’t commit suicide?!
I don’t think so! There’s
so much evidence!” I wanted to
look, to get a last look at him, but I couldn’t make myself do it.
“Brian,” Kevin put his hands gently on my shoulders in
his big brother way. “He was
murdered. Look,” he turned me towards the body and I had to look
down. “There’s blood all down
the back of his shirt. Too much
blood. He was shot.” I finally
looked up. It was true. Nick was murdered.
