If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 6
Brian
It had been a long day.
I walked into the dressing room to get ready for yet another show. We had left the city where Nick and Polly’s accident had
happened but the same gloomy mood hung over all of us.
I was dead tired and decided that I’d take a quick power
nap before the show. I still had an
hour and half to get ready. I left
the light off and fumbled my way through the dark until I found what I was
looking for. Since there was no bed
in the dressing room, I decided to sleep in the next best thing.
A chair.
I sat down and stretched out.
I put my elbow on one of the arm rests and leaned my head against my
fist.
I was about to nod off when I felt something tap lightly on
the back of my head. I opened my
eyes but was still greeted by the now eerie darkness of the small dressing room. I decided it was nothing and leaned my head back against the
back of the chair to try to get to sleep again.
There it was again! That
tapping! It was just one soft tap
on the back of my head. I jerked my
head backwards to see if I felt anything there.
Boy did I ever! I banged my
head on an unidentified object that disappeared the second I hit it.
But within seconds it came flying back at my head and knocked my head
forward. I jumped out of the chair.
“What the heck?!” I shouted into the darkness.
I sat back down in the chair and waited for it to come again.
Inevitably, it did.
The second it touched me, I grabbed it.
It took me a couple seconds to realize what I was squeezing in my hand.
A shoe.
