If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 16
Kevin
“Yes, Brian was the one who
found him.” I repeated. The
police had been there for about twenty minutes.
They kept asking me the same things over and over and the more they
asked, the more I realized that I didn’t know the whole story.
“Brian just called my cell to tell me that he would meet me
here,” I was exhausted. “Maybe
you can get the whole story from him. I
don’t know all of it. Just that
my best little man is dead.”
I left the room. There
were probably about ten cops in there, some studying the body, some studying the
room for fingerprints, and a couple of them were questioning me nonstop. I had to leave.
“Kev!” I turned around quickly at the familiarity of the
voice. I was surprised to see that
AJ was with him.
“Hey you guys.” I motioned to the two of them.
“What’s up.”
“I talked it over with AJ.
He had nothing to do with it. I
really need to talk to you about this whole ordeal.
You don’t know the whole story do you?” I shook my head.
“Come on, man. Let’s
go.” Brian started to walk out of the building.
“Bri, wait.” He and AJ turned back to me.
“There’s some cops here that I think you two need to talk to.”
They exchanged looks and then followed me back to Brian’s
dressing room. It was getting late
and the show had ended nearly three hours ago.
It was around two thirty and I could tell that the guys really didn’t
want to have to deal with the cops right then.
“A few cops,” AJ muttered, looking at the now filled
room. There were more there than when I had left.
“You’re Mr. Brian Littrell, right?” One chunky cop came
up to Brian and asked.
“That’s right.” Brian replied, and I could tell that he
was bracing himself for the barrage of questions that would be inevitably thrown
at him.

“Wow.” Was all I could say.
Brian and AJ had just finished telling me the whole story, every detail,
from beginning to end. I leaned
back in the chair that I was sitting in at the same diner that AJ had been in
earlier.
“Yup.” Brian took a sip of his shake.
“We really need to talk to Howie.
I just don’t want to talk to him right now though.
It’s too soon.”
“What are we supposed to do for the next show in
Houston?” I asked.
“Well, we told the police that they couldn’t talk to the
press at all, so the fans won’t know what happened.
We just have to go ahead and perform.” Brian ran a hand through his
hair.
“We can tell the press in Houston to warn the fans early
that Nick’s sick or something. Bronchitis,
maybe. He lost his voice. Something like that.”
“Alright.” I got up from the table and threw down a five
for the tip. “I’m calling it a
night. Let’s make it a date that
we all meet up with Howie in my hotel room at six tomorrow morning. That will give us an hour to talk before we have to leave for
the flight to Houston.” Both AJ and Brian agreed.
“I’ll leave Howie the message.” AJ said.
We followed Brian back to the hotel and said good-night
before we went into our hotel rooms. I
stripped down to my boxers and jumped into the bed.
I was too tired to take a shower. I
was thinking about the whole night before I fell asleep. Well, I cried myself to sleep actually.
I just hoped that everything went well with Howie tomorrow.
