If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 14
AJ
I had left Howie in the dressing room
with Nick. Well, Nick’s body.
I just couldn’t believe that the bastard actually went
through with it! And then he tried
to pull me into it!
“What do you mean, ‘we’re’
screwed?” I asked, not hiding the hatred in my voice.
“Well, now they know that we had something to do with
it.” Howie said simply, matter-of-factly, wiping the blood from his nose.
“There’s that ‘we’ again!” He was standing now and
I walked up to him and stuck my face inches away from his.
“Let me make this clear to you since you obviously don’t get it.
I had nothing to do with it.
You made the plan. I agreed.
You went ahead and went through with the plan without me.
There is no AJ in that picture. Get
it?”
“No, Bone, I don’t.” Howie moved away from me and sat
down in the chair that Kevin had just unoccupied.
“You see, we were in this together, no matter what, so that still
leaves you involved. The only thing
I don’t understand is how Kevin knew.”
“Who care’s how he knew!” I was fed up with Howie.
“He knew and now you’re exposed.
No rather, we’re exposed because he thinks that I did it too!
Well, I didn’t, thank you very much, and you better get my name
cleared.” I walked to the door
but stopped when Howie questioned me.
“Or what? What
if I don’t get your name cleared?”
“If you don’t, you’re gonna get yours.”
I stared him straight in the eye. “That’s
a promise.” He turned away from
my stare and I walked out of the room, still mad.
I was going through the events of the past few days leading
up to my threat to Howie. I had
gone out to a small diner that didn’t have that many people in it.
I had to sort things out. I
just didn’t get it.
The shrill whine of my cell phone ringing shot me back to
reality. I answered it without even
checking the caller ID and was surprised when Brian’s calm voice answered me
back.
“Meet me at the park in ten minutes.
You know exactly which one I mean.”
