Chapter 12: Don't Want You Back

Brian

"Let it go!"
"Never! I won't let anything stop me from killing him!"
"You can't do this!"
"Yes I can! You just watch!"
"Please, let him live! What did he do to you?"
"Plenty! For one he ruined my life. And yours. Wouldn't you like to see him die?" She reached for the plug once again.
"Let it go, Melanie," I begged, praying that she would. I couldn't let AJ die. I just couldn't!
"Stay out of this, Brian! I told you the day that we found out he was the father; I told you I would do anything to avenge the hurt that I caused you! I have to kill him! Please let me kill him for you!" Her eyes were filled with hatred. I knew that she wasn't lucid. I moved toward her, inching my way so she wouldn't notice.
"Stop! Stop moving!" Okay, so my plan failed.
"Mellie, come on, be rational. Let AJ live." I didn't know what I was going to do. Then I remembered that I had a cell phone in my jacket pocket.
"Let's talk, Mellie." I put my hands in my pockets and talked really loud while I pushed the send button. I had called Nick last and I knew that it would automatically dial him. "Mellie, let me ask you a simple question before you pull the plug." Mellie's arm stiffened, then relaxed.
"Fine, ask."
I heard Nick's muffled voice in my pocket. I talked fast before he could hang up. I just hope he could hear me and realize what was happening and got his butt down here!
"Mellie, who do you love more? Me or AJ?"
"Duh! Why would I kill AJ if I didn't love you? Brian, I have loved you since the day I met you. I told you that I would do anything for you. And I meant it." She stopped talking and looked at AJ.
"What are you going to do about the baby?" I knew I had to keep her talking.
"I thought that after I killed off AJ," I flinched. "You could adopt the baby as your own and it could take on your last name." She smiled. "Wouldn't you like that?"
"Yeah." She heard the falter in my voice and her eyes flashed with anger.
"You don't want my baby?!" She took one last look at AJ. "I'm still going to kill him and you can't stop me." She ripped the plug out of the wall.
I ran for her, tackling her to the ground. I would never think of hurting a girl unless the situation was as critical as this. She was out with one punch.
I got up as fast as I could and grabbed the cord. I was about to put it in when Melanie grabbed my legs and pulled me to the floor, the plug coming with me.
She sat on top of me and punched me with a strength that I didn't know that she had. I grabbed her wrists and stuck one foot on her stomach and pushed as hard as I could. I sent her flying at the wall.
Once again I got up and this time, I did get the plug back in. I stole a glance at AJ. He didn't look good. His face had started to turn blue. I looked over at his heart-monitor and realized that it wasn't on. I reached my hand over to see if I could find a pulse.
Melanie jumped on my back before I could search for a pulse. She sent me flat on top of AJ and she punched my face as hard as she could. Just before I could reach her arm, she unplugged it again.
This time she held onto the plug as I fought her for it. I finally got it out of her fingers by biting her arm. Sounds stupid, I know, but she had a death grip on it and I was desperate. I shoved the plug back into the electrical socket and turned around to face Melanie. She was gone.
