~~*Chapter Six*~~
Brian was completely stunned. He didn’t know what to say, what to do.
He wasn’t expecting this at all. The idea never entered his head that she
could be blind. How was that possible ?
-
Kinda surprising, huh ?
She was still smiling.
-
Well… You can say that. It’s hard to believe
it, you don’t seem to… I mean…
-
My eyes look normal, I know. My mother told me that
at least a thousand times. I hear people, I feel them. That’s why I face you
right now, just like somebody who see you.
-
I better understand why you take Bob everywhere,
even in a concert hall.
-
Yes, he helps me a lot. He’s the best dog on this
earth.
Hearing his name, Bob raised his head and licked
Morgan’s hand. Brian was watching them. She seemed different… She was
different.
-
Can I ask you a question ?
-
Sure, do it.
-
How ? What did happen ?
Brian’s voice was now concerned, full of worries
and gentleness.
Morgan sighed. She didn’ t want to travel again
across her painful past. But he had the right to know. She just said he
could ask !
-
In January 2000, what means a little more than one
year ago, Chris and I were driving to the beach. We wanted to spend our four-day
vacation walking on the sand, watching the ocean and enjoying ourselves. Then
this truck came right in front of us. I remember Chris, trying everything to
avoid it. I was screaming so loud ! I heard this awful noise and all suddenly
went black, so black…
Morgan was breathing heavily. She couldn’t stop
talking now, she had to tell him the whole story. Until the end and even if it
was hurting badly.
-
When I woke up, all was still dark. There were
people speaking near me, my Mom, my Dad. I could hear them but not see them. I
was trying to open my eyes with despair, and after a moment I understood they
were already largely open. I was blind. And Chris was dead. My world fell in a
million pieces.
She stopped talking a few seconds, lost in her
thoughts.
-
The doctors say I will never be able to se again.
My eyes were burnt by the petrol of the car. That’s why their color changed.
Cilia says they’re dark blue, but before they were clearer than the sea, trust
me.
-
I’m really sorry…
He was sincere and Morgan knew it.
-
Thank you, she whispered.
-
What for ?
-
For being so kind, and for making good music to
help people forget about their sadness.
-
You’re welcome, Morgan.
Compared with hers, his own pain was nothing. How
could he have been so stupid ?
Just
take a look around, Littrell, and stop crying on you. There are people you have
the power to help everywhere. Do it. Don’t let this bitch of Lucy destroy your
life and prevent you from lending a hand.
She shook sadly her head. The injury was still
there, as sharp as on the first day.
-
I’m often afraid, you know… Sometimes I wonder
what’s still worth living… It’s so difficult… One day you watch a
wonderful sunset, you look at the happy smile of a friend. You SEE life. And
then, everything’s black. You don’t know what’s around you anymore. You
have to relearn to exist, and this is the hardest thing ever…
Morgan was on the verge of breaking down. Every
part of her was aching, it was almost impossible to bear. It took so much time
to build this strong shell over those bruises, to get this control of herself.
And now… All just lay in smithereens.
She suddenly felt Brian’s arms around her body.
He was clasping her tight on his chest but she didn’t
fight to get away. She put her head on his shoulder and authorized her
pain to come out. For the first time ever since the accident, she wasn’t
trying to hide her feelings in the bottom of her heart. Brian held her closer,
telling sweet things into her ear. And for the first time, too, tears slowly
started to run down her face.
When she calmed down, he pulled
a tissue out of his pocket and carefully wipe her tears away.
She smiled to him, grateful.
-
Thank you, Brian.
He smiled too and kissed slightly her forehead.
-
Are you sure it’s a good idea ?
She smirked.
-
I know all the streets of New Orleans better than
anybody. With Bob and Cilia, I can go everywhere without a problem, you know. I
learnt about my dark town.
-
So I guess it’s ok… Let’s go then !
They both stood up and Brian called Johnny, his
bodyguard, while Morgan was seeking Bob’s leash. He helped her to put her coat
on and gently took her left hand.
-
Cilia isn’t there, but I can take her place. Do
you agree ?
Morgan grinned to him and shook his hand.
-
I think I do.
They went out of the hotel. Bob was happy to breath
some fresh air and he barked with joy. B-Rok was amazed by Morgan. She was
walking like everyone, without hesitating before making a new step. She was
different, but she was also the same. An ordinary girl. He loved it. He loved
her. With her, there was no problem. She was true and knew well what it was to
suffer.
He wanted deeply to stop hurting, and he wanted
deeper to make her stop hurting. Together they could do it, no doubt was
possible. They were meant to be two.
All of a sudden, Morgan turned
to him. A bright smile was lighting her beautiful face.
-
You know, she whispered, I didn’t know that I
could still cry.
