There are over 700,000 children living in Russian orphanages today, ranging in age from newborns to 18 year olds. Many lack basic necessities such as adequate clothing (especially during the harsh Russian winters), proper nutrition, and medical care. More importantly, they lack the love and attention that many of us take for granted every day.
Statistics show that these children have a 1 in 10 chance of becoming a functional member of society. The rest are lost to drugs, alcohol, crime, prostitution and suicide, with many of them living on the streets. Within the first year of leaving the orphanage, often as early as 16 years old:
With your help, Ascent Russian Orphanage Aid Foundation's Kostroma Kids Program can give the kids in the orphanage a real chance at a meaningful life, both inside and outside the orphanage. Together we can help these children defy the statistics by addressing the problem one orphanage and one child at a time, establishing meaningful relationships with every child and every member of the orphanage staff. With your help, we can provide every child with proper clothing, much needed medical supplies, a nutritious diet, sports programs, educational support, life skills, art supplies, computers, field trips, and mentoring. |
