Fei: (noticing Quin crying) Kwan, what’s wrong?
Man: Oh my God, Quin!
Man: (in an angry tone) What did you do now, Tsui Fei?
Chi San: Man, please take Quin home.
Man: All right. Come on, Quin.
Fei: (crossed his arms over his chest) I trust you have an explaination, San Gor? What happened to “there’s nothing between Quin and me”?
Chi San shook his head. How typical of Fei to think that I have feelings for Quin! But…if I were to explain, then I would have to tell him about Ching Ching’s visit to Quin. Boy, will he ever blow his top over Ching Ching then. But then again, Ching Ching was really out of the line, talking to Quin like that. What the heck, she deserved a good kick in the pants.
Chi San: (looking at Fei squarely in the eye) There is NOTHING between Quin and me. We are just friends. Satisfied?
Fei: (relief registering on his face) Really?
Chi San: Really.
Fei: But…why was Kwan crying?
Chi San: You better be prepared for this. Your Ching Ching came up to Quin’s office and yelled at her.
Fei: WHAT?!?!
Chi San: You heard me. Ching Ching was insulting Quin and asking her to stay away from you. She even implied an intimate relationship between Quin and me. (Chi San gave a short bark of laughter) As if. Well, Ching Ching had really done it. Quin was an emotional wreck. She had probably done the last piece of damage. If she wanted Quin to stay away from you, well, I’d say she had succeeded. Quin’ll probably never even look at you again. You can tell this to Ching Ching from me: She needs a new brain. No, scratch that. She needs a hundred new brains. One wouldn’t be enough.
Chi San finished ranting, breathing heavily. He was really angry with Ching Ching, and one couldn’t blame him. Fei was speechless. He couldn’t believe that Ching Ching did what she had done. He spun on his heel and strode out of the office. Chi San watched him go. He knew that Fei was going to let Ching Ching have it. Chi San chuckled. That’s one show I wouldn’t mind seeing. Chi San wasn’t normally this mean. But one has to admit, Ching Ching definitely deserved Fei’s wrath.
Fei: How dare you!?!
Ching Ching: (raising her chin defiantly) That woman was a total snake. Do you think she still have feelings for you? She was carrying on with Kong Chi San.
Fei: It was none of your business. You have no right to go to Quin’s and insulted (mo yuk) her like that.
Ching Ching: Oh, so I don’t have to right to scold the woman who was seducing my boyfriend. How can you like someone as cheap as her?
SLAP! A stinging slap landed on Ching Ching’s cheek. She looked at Fei with shock.
Fei: (trembling with anger) Listen to me, Ching Ching, and listen to me good. I promised to take care of you and I will not back out on my promise. Can you not be so suspicious? Kwan and I were in the past. Why did you yelled at Kwan for?
Ching Ching: (yelling) In the past?!?! Then you look at me and tell me that you love me, and only me, and that you have no feelings or whatsoever for Mo Chiu Kwan.
Ching Ching: You see? You can’t say it. You still love her. And me! Do you know what I have suffered for you? (she lifted up her skirt) Do you see this fake leg? Who caused me to lose this leg? I spent three years with a loathesome man, and for what? For the man I love. You! And you don’t even appreciate me the tiniest bit. How could you?
Fei stood there trembling. Guilt seeped into his heart once again. You should have been more tolerable with Ching Ching. She had been through a lot because of you. How could you lose your temper like that?
Fei: I…
Ching Ching: I’m sorry. I’m sorry I yelled at her. But it was because I love you. I can’t bear to lose you.
Fei: If you apologise to Kwan, I’ll…I’ll treat it as nothing has happened.
Ching Ching: Apologise to her? (bowed her head) I…I guess I was a little wrong. I will apologise.
Ching Ching rested her head against Fei’s shoulder. Fei had forgiven her, but she wasn’t a bit happy. Why? It was always her. Mo Chiu Kwan. Never me. She knew that Fei didn’t love her as much as he love Quin, perhaps Fei didn’t even love her, but she didn’t care. I need Fei. As long as he was with me, I’ll be all right. Sooner or later, he’s bound to forget her. He will love me. I’ll make sure of it. Ching Ching hugged Fei tightly. If I hold on tight enough, he can never leave me.
Man: Quin, may I come in, please?
Quin: (muffled voice) Go away. I want to be alone.
Man shook her head sadly. Suddenly, her cell phone rang.
Headmaster: Miss Mun, you must return to the school now. We have a very important meeting.
Man: (looking at Quin’s closed door) Mr.Cheung, do I need to? I’m afraid I have a little personal matter.
Headmaster: (in an irritated tone) Perhaps you didn’t hear me clearly, Miss Mun. I said IMPORTANT.
Man: All right.
She shut her cell phone and punched in another number. Busy. She redialed. The number was still busy. Man was getting really annoyed. She tried the third time. Finally, she got through.
Man: Chi San, Man here. I have an emergency; I have to go back to school. Can you please come over now and look after Quin?
Chi San: I’ll be there in 5 minutes.
Man: I’ll leave the door opened for you. I really have to run now.
Man: Quin? I have an emergency. Chi San will be over soon. Are you okay?
No answer. Man sighed and let herself out of the door, closing the door behind her.
Meanwhile…
The Man: Hello, Quin. Long time no see. How about a cup of coffee?
Quin: (shock registering on her face) You…you are…oh my God, help…
The man strode over and pressed a handkerchief against Quin’s face. Quin kicked and struggled, but it was no use. Quin slowly lost consciousness. The man chuckled.
The Man: Ah, Quin. We really have a lot to catch up on.
After a while…
He felt uneasy, for some reason. The apartment was eerily quiet. Chi San saw that Quin’s bedroom door was wide open. He walked into Quin’s room. No one was in there. But there was a handkerchief on the floor, and a white envelope on Quin’s writing desk. Chi San picked up the handkerchief, fear gripping his heart. He gingerly sniffed at the handkerchief. Oh, no, God. Choloform. Chi San immediately grabbed the envelope on the desk. The envelope was simply addressed to: Tsui Fei. Chi San forced himself to stay calm. Walking to the living room, he picked up the phone.
Chi San: Korean, it’s Chi San. Send the team over to Quin’s apartment immediately. Something has happened. Is Fei with you?
Korean: Something happened to Miss Mo? Darn it, Fei Gor is not in. We’ll come immediately, San Gor. Want me to contact Fei Gor?
Chi San: No, you and the others come here, NOW.
Korean: Got it.
Chi San: Fei? It’s me. You better prepared yourself for this. (lei hou yao sum lei zhun bei) I’ve got some bad news. Quin’s been kidnapped.
Both Chi San and Quin looked up in shock.
Chi San: Fei, please let me explain…
(Quin could only shook her head. An out-of-breath Man arrived at Quin’s office. She was shocked to see Quin crying.)
(Man immediately rushed to Quin’s side.)
(Chi San quickly stepped in and intervened.)
(He shot Man a don’t-ask-any-questions look.)
(Man and a still sobbing Quin walked out of the office. Man satisfied herself by throwing Fei a glare, thinking that Fei had hurt Quin again.)
Ching Ching: You…you…
(Fei opened his mouth, but nothing came out.)
(Ching Ching was sobbing piteously. Fei hesitated, and took a step towards Ching Ching.)
Man: Hello?
(Man quickly gathered her overcoat. She knocked softly on Quin’s door.)
Quin dried her eyes and sat at her writing table. Her room door creaked opened. She looked up, expecting to see Man. But she saw a tall frame and a familiar face.
Chi San: Quin?
(Chi San punched another number.)
Ching Ching had succeeded in making Fei more and more guilty for what he “owed” her. On a darker note, why is Quin kidnapped? And what does the kidnapper want from Fei? Stay tune for the partial uncovery next chapter.
