ZOO ANIMALS ACTVITIES
Add a hay bale.
Corn and grains to sift.
Dirt and sand with small plastic zoo animals.
Sorting animals:
Cut out pictures of zoo animals from magazines.
Sort into bowls labled "large" and "small" animals.
Sort small plastic animals into groups such as:
Animals with fur, animals that fly, animals with four legs,
animals with no legs, etc...
Sort various sizes of plastic animals from largest
to smallest and smallest to largest.
Add to science table: A piece of snakeskin and
a piece of fur. Discuss the difference in the skins.
(If you have a park nearby check and see if they have
a "Hands on Exibit" for children).
Make a Habitat:
Place a plastic medium size fish bowl on science table
with some water, dirt, hunks of turf, hay, etc...
Add very small toy zoo animals. Let the kids make the habitat
and add the animals. Provide small amount of corn to feed the animals.
Add a book about Zoo Animals.
Animals Worldwide:
Show children pictures of animals from other countries.
Show where they live using a globe.
Discuss how animals help us: Examples:
Camels - People ride on camels in some countries.
Elephants - Elephants move large things like logs.
Dogs - Dogs make great "seeing eye dogs" for people who can not see.
Cows & Goats give us milk.
Paper Plate Lion Masks:
Give each child a paper plate. Make whiskers
using markers. Help kids cut out eye holes.
Glue cotton around the edges. Add yarn ties to the sides.
Paper Plate Tiger Wall Hanging:
Shake cotton balls in baggie half full of yellow tempera paint.
Glue yellow cotton balls all the way around the paper plate.
Use markers for facial features. Cut or tear long strips of yellow
and black paper. Glue or staple to the bottom of the tiger face.
Tie a loop of yarn through a hole in the top to hang on the wall.
