Dramatic Play

Create a Clock Shop in a small conner of the room.
Provide as many old clocks as you can.
Help kids remove the faces.
You can also add tools to take them apart to veiw mechanisms.

Telephoning - Make a classroom telephone book
which includes all the children's numbers.
Practice dialing home on a real phone.

Practice dialing 911 on a play phone.

Number Math

Number Chains - Have kids cut or tear strips of paper
to represent each day or month.
Take links away as you count down to a holiday or special occasion.

Draw lines on a piece of cardboard.
Have children roll clay snakes and place over the lines.
Count how many snakes.

When kids are helping to set the table, count everything.
Napkins, forks, spoons, etc...

Number Science

Make a height and weight chart. Children can help
by measuring each other. Record the numbers.
Do the same activity later in the year.

Cut out shapes from carpet squares, cardboard and material.
See if kids can identify the shape.

Collect a variety of small objects and place on the science
table with a balancing scale.

Place a thermometer outside and inside.
Compare and chart the differences.
You can also bring the one from outside in
and note it while it changes.

Arts & Crafts

Marker Sets:
Wrap rubber bands around different sets of markers.
Use the sets to make designs. Discuss how many lines come from each.

Coupon Collage:
Cutout coupons and glue to poster board for a collage.

Ruler Designs:
Provide many different shapes and sizes of rulers.
Use to make designs.

Easel Idea:
Cut number stencils from cardboard to use on the easel board.
Paint over the stencil and remove to see big number.

Number Cookie Cutters:
Use with playdough or clay.

Number Sponges:
You can buy or cut numbers from sponges.
Use with paint and paper or outside on walk with water.

Number Circle Games

Block Match:
Trace around blocks on poster board and have kids take turns
going to block area to find a matching block.

Number Game:
Play Simon Says using directions with numbers.
Example: 3 claps, 1 hop, 2 jumps etc...

Number Cooking Activity

Number Soup!:
Make soup together using:
1 can chicken stock
2 cans water
3 onions
4 carrots
5 potatoes

Number Sandwiches:
Use number cookie cutters to cut bread.
Add favorite sandwich fixings.
